I'm going to return Das Boot. I thought it was the 2 disc version.

Okay man, whatever you say. It's got a 93% audience approval rating and an 86% overall approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It's got a 4.5 star rating on Yahoo. 75+% of the people on DVDTalk rated it 4 out of 5 stars or higher. Yet your view is the film is "mediocre to bad" and "appallingly disappointing."

Taste and art are of course subjective, but insofar as consensus can be quantified, you're just objectively wrong here. Occasionally, when somebody adopts such a hyperbolic, contrary viewpoint to popular consensus, it's an honestly held belief. More often, it's just them trying to be contrary though.

When people are in the majority: "Look, everyone agrees with us! We are clearly right. You few dissenters must be wrong."

When people are in the minority: "Look at all of those sheep. It is sad how easily they are misled. We few are the free thinkers who can see the truth."

It just seems to be human nature.

Well, I liked it, about as much as I liked the other two. Actually, I'm one of the few freaks who preferred the first one to the second - Ledger's great performance notwithstanding.

To each his own.

Quoted for emphasis. I got your back, Captain. Appallingly bad, Dirk? You've lost credibility in my book.

May not have been a great movie but it's far from appallingly bad.

Anyway I grabbed the under-rated or under thought of Life, the Eddie Murphy movie for $7 after coupon.

I love the movie. The montage of them growing older is heart breaking.

Three trips, with three cashiers, and I've discovered my Best Buy isn't even bothering to collect the coupon/receipt anymore.

To say it is "appallingly disappointing" is hyperbolic to say the least. The VAST majority of people that have viewed this film do not feel that way. Is it as good as The Dark Knight? Probably not. But burned out fanboys not withstanding, I think most people feel it is a very good film that absolutely holds its own against the other films in the trilogy.

DirkBelig, I've come to get your back. I also do not fall in the "majority" that believes that the recent trilogy of Batman movies is definitive, or even great.

Though I will admit that TDKR is my favorite of the trilogy haha.

Actually, it's inappropriate. This is a shopping forum; it's not the place to give your opinions on any film. You can see what happens to the forum when one person states an opinion. Imagine how much bickering there would be if I and everyone else told you what we really think of the BDs you're buying. We'd never be able to find the posted deals.

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree as well. As much as I thoroughly enjoyed The Dark Knight, I was disappointed with DKR. It was slow, not enough action when it was necessary, and used too many plot gimmicks. Avengers was above this one. Sorry. Too many fanboys trying to elevate just a good film to a classic.

But I digress. I was lucky enough to buy a lot of 25 oddball movies on auction for about 75 cents each that I will be using over the next couple weeks to deplete my bank account at Best Buy. It worked out since my local Dollar Trees seem to have been wiped out of dollar DVDs.

Picked up 2 of the Underworlds, Superbad and Abe Lincoln vs. Zombies for 4.99, and Silent House for 14.99. Abe vs. Zombies has been surprisingly hard to find considering it is supposed to be pretty bad, but I have an urgent need to buy all that is zombie, so oh well. Make sure you check out the new Sony special bullnose display...lots of titles at 9.99 to 14.99.

In general I agree, although sometimes people do ask for an opinion before making a blind buy. I won't give my opinion of the movie itself, but personally I believe TDK's box-office success was largely due to Heath Ledger's tragic death...
Sorry to add fuel to the fire...

Back on topic... That royally sucks. I know we all were looking forward to getting it for $4.99. Is it a sale price? Perhaps it will go back up to $9.99 for the last week or two of U&S...

Since Best Buy has been doing this deal every few months, it might be a good idea to watch the auction sites for mid sized lots of movies you don't care about, that you can pick up pretty cheap, to use for these times.

Dang. I cancelled my Amazon order in anticipation of $4.99. Now add in tax and gas, and it's a wash.

^ Amazon may match the $7.99 price, meaning that would be the way to go (if you have Prime, or other stuff to order)
