For region free Blu-rays & DVDs, this is the cheapest I could find, a refurb Sony S1200 for $109.00:
https://smile.amazon.com/S1200-Multi...dp/B010EINLTY/

For just DVDs, not Blu-rays, you can typically find one sold in a B&M store that can be hacked to region free. For example, Best Buy has the Samsung DVD-C500 for $44.99 that can be hacked:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/samsung-...?skuId=9837617
http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks/sa...dvd-c500/11033

Region free Blu-ray players are all more expensive because they require an after-market modification in order to change Blu-ray regions. So you're not really going to find one for under $100, excepting maybe a used/refurb deal.

I have a Seiki SR4KP1 I picked up a couple of months back for $49 from B&H Photo. It's currently $99 w/free shipping. At the time I purchased this there were several vendors which had the unit with prices ranging from $50 to $130. Now it looks like B&H is the best price. It's a very good little unit that can be made fully region free for DVDs and changed easily with a code for BR - but BR has to be changed each time you change region. I've not yet purchased any region free BR discs and mainly got it for R2 DVD product. It's upconverting/upscaling to "near 4K resolution," has HDMI and composite outputs, and is Technicolor certified. I've been pleased with the unit and after seeing the price jump like it did wish I'd have purchased a 2nd one "just because."

The Oppo hardware hack is the same for br; requires a code each time.

Re: DVD; I was able to hack a recent Philips blu to be r free for dvd very easily.

Every multi-region BD player is going to require you to manually change the region before playing a different region disc. It's because BDs check the region differently than DVDs do.

With DVDs, the DVD player does the check, so if you hack the player to just accept all DVD regions, it can play any region disc. With BD, the disc does the check, and if the player reports that it's compatible with more than one region, the disc refuses to play. So the player has to be set to only work with one particular region at any given time.

That Sony player that I got is but one push of a color button for region select. No more punching in # codes.

My Sony is like that, but with a very specific set of conditions. First, turn it on without a disc in it. Then eject the tray. Then push the color button that corresponds to the region you want. Then put a disc in the tray and watch it.

Of course, mine has an aftermarket mod in it, where they've programmed it to respond that way. The Seiki is using the built-in firmware, hence the code, especially since Seiki wants some deniability in whether the menu was put there for end users to use, which would be a big no-no.

Oppo had to remove the ability to play ISO's in 12/12; which is why I still have 2012 firmware. TTo this day, I fortunately have not found a single br it wouldn't play. There are a couple file formats it has trouble with (Flac audio when imbedded in an MKV, & I ran into 1 mkv it wouldn't play, though that's usually not an issue)

What's the longest you all had to wait for an order from Amazon UK?

I bought a DVD and 2 BDs on the 7th and it's now 20 days have passed and nothing has arrived yet. According to Amazon UK's site, it was supposed to come on the 22nd.

It was shipped via Asendia. Are they hit or miss with speed?

I ordered something from there in November and it arrived in just under 2 weeks.

It's been 2 weeks but it's the holiday season, so add an extra week as a buffer.

Between 3 and 4 weeks - via Asendia on *all* the slower ones. I got a larger order shipped out of a Italy warehouse via DHL in under a week. *One* item from that order shipped separately, via Asendia, and took 3 weeks to arrive. The majority of my orders, which get shipped via Asendia, take ~3 weeks.

I'm sure I wait 2-4 weeks on all of my UK orders, but I don't keep close track of them.

Likely the Amazon shipment I mentioned 2 pages back. Shipped on November 19th and arrived today. Two other UK packages were also delayed, one from an Amazon Marketplace seller (shipped 11/15) and the other from Zavvi (shipped 11/28). The Zavvi order arrived first, followed by the Marketplace order, then Amazon. So my guess is that somebody got overwhelmed and shifted from FIFO processing to LIFO. I'm gonna blame USPS in Philadelphia. Their airport can't process luggage in a timely manner either! :)

Placed about A dozen orders from Amazon UK over the years.
I think 2 weeks was about the average.Only one order took about 30 days.
Also most of my orders had no tracking

Can not remember who the carrier was.Never heard of Assendia.

I have had stuff delivered anywhere from 2 weeks to 6 weeks. If it isn't to you by two weeks after their expected delivery date, then you are not going to get it more than likely.

I give everything up to two weeks after their expected delivery date and then if it has not been received, I contact them. I have had stuff go missing only once out of many orders made. Usually they show up a few days before or after the expected delivery date. I rarely get them quicker than that.

This pertains to domestic USA mail: THE USPS is doing terrible this month with media mail delivery delays. With next year's postal rates, media mail will be cheaper then 1st class package on any music, movies, books & magazines package weighing over 4 ounces. (2nd straight year the main postal increase was 1st class package). It could get ugly.

Thank goodness the eBay sellers I have dealt with have noticed this, and have been packaging my stuff much more carefully. Indeed, it's going to get ugly. More packages. Potentially more careless handling of merchandise.

Wow thanks for the heads up. I didn't know.

Combine it with other titles (there are a ton of classic BDs that have never been available in the US) and shipping is really nominal (for e.g, I ordered 7 BD's and shipping was only $4.80 to the USA)

the German Studio Canal Region B release of 'Red Sun' is now only $7 shipped to the USA (€3.97)

BTW, was going to do a few discs on Amazon.co.uk and is anybody else getting when they go to checkout, an error from Amazon themselves? Just want to make sure it's not something weird with my account.

To keep this slightly on topic, I will mention that Death Race Trilogy is down to 6.99 pounds and the Dollhouse Complete Series set is down to 11.99 pounds. Thanks :)

Edit: Of course the minute I say that (even though its been doing this for the last hour), it goes back to normal operation. Anyway....
