Re: Canadian Blu-ray Bargains
The shipping between the countries is out of step with its physical costs. It's cheaper for me as an American to import goods from Europe and Asia, than from Canada. Something else is going on, like a soft form of protectionism.

Re: Canadian Blu-ray Bargains
^ Likewise from Europe and Asia to Canada. Very frustrating.

Re: Canadian Blu-ray Bargains
High shipping costs have basically wiped out all of my eBay buying and selling.
I'm not sure if it's protectionism as the border now allows you to buy even more merchandise and bring it across without paying taxes and duties. I think the problem is just the operating costs of Canada Post. We only have 10% of the population of the US and yet physically we are much more spread out across a larger chunk of land. This is probably why prices for almost everything are better in the US, because the US buys in higher volumes making them able to sell cheaper. |
Re: Canadian Blu-ray Bargains
I would love to get the uncut Lawless but $10 to ship it to the US is highway robbery.

But that doesn't explain why the costs are so high from the US to Canada.
I guess when the mail hits the Canadian border, Canada Post takes over and that's where the extra costs come from. |

Actually I don't find the costs of US shipping to Canada to be very expensive compared to Canada to the US.
I guess when the mail hits the Canadian border, Canada Post takes over and that's where the extra costs come from. If that was responsible for the extra costs, then it should also be expensive to ship from the UK to Canada, but it is not. It's about half the cost. I really think amazon.com just inflated their international shipping prices to help offset the costs for their free domestic shipping. On a different note, I know the USPS prices have gone up quite a bit, too. It now costs around $9 for an individual (i.e. no bulk rate) to ship a single CD from the US to Canada. |

Found at the downtown Toronto Sunrise Records:
SUNSET BOULEVARD - $9.00 TOYS IN THE ATTIC - $9.00 These part of the ongoing 2/$18 promotion which is almost always just for DVDs. These were the only Blu-rays I could find that were part of the sale, actually. Lucky I wanted them both, I guess. Not sure how many Sunrise stores are even left in this country, but if you're near one, well . . . |

Re: Canadian Blu-ray Bargains
Glad someone else is spotting these bargains. I know there aren't many Canadians on this site, but still doesn't hurt to post the occasional deal. While Amazon Canada certainly doesn't come close to the U.S. site (or even the U.K. site) in terms of deal volume and frequency, there are a few one-offs (like the DOWNTON set, among others) where ordering from within Canada makes sense for a change!

Re: Canadian Blu-ray Bargains
The SCTV Collection is $44.99 as an amazon.ca lightning deal.
http://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00AB20JA8 Tempting, but it's pretty disappointing to read of all the music substitution and cuts: http://www.sctvguide.ca/episodes/sctvdvd.htm http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...kL._SL500_.jpg |
Re: Canadian Blu-ray Bargains
