Given how long and how much prodding on my part it took to get a reponse, I had no expectation of getting anything soon. Hence my dilemma but I appreciate your point.

Just a few more months until the 12-month CD (that he purchased with everyone's money) matures.

I just got an email from him stating that I'd receive a money order (?) for the one title that Paypal refused to refund my money for. Pretty quick turnaround - only 9 weeks between my refund request and his reply!

I've received two emails in the past week. The first one said he'd gladly issue the Paypal refund I've been requesting (via money order) and asked if my address on file was correct. The second said if I still wanted my order sent it'd go out this Monday, which is the first time a specific date was given. Either way, it requires a reply back and that'll take another month minimum for him to get to it. And he knows damn well what I want from the various tweets and Facebook PMs I've sent umpteen times. More backpedaling as usual.

I got this at least three weeks ago. Since then, nothing. No reply to my response, no BDs. I am about to do a charge back. (Citibank allows it indefinitely, apparently.)

Please just let us know which you'd prefer.

Thank you!!!"

Part of me wants to go ahead and wait it out since I had already counted the money as being gone anyway but the other part of me is saying get the refund and be done with it. Time to ponder somemore.

Just got a money order in the mail from HME for one of the DVDs that I couldn't get a refund for via paypal. It took 5 emails over the course of 2 months.

Didn't see this coming - the original Facebook page is back online and surprisingly a few of the negative comments from February are still there:

I give it 3 days before it's gone for good.

Only because he's promoting some movie on VHS. Is this something new that companies are getting into again? At least do it to films that haven't been out on DVD for years and if you do, charge less than the DVD at least.

Yea, it's becoming a semi-popular little niche thing. Most of them are numbered or at least limited to a certain press run and they aren't cheap most of the time, costing just as much or more than the dvd.

It seems hard to believe this guy has acquired any new customers over the last few months - doesn't anyone take two seconds to Google 'Horror Movie Empire' before handing over their cash to a man who works out of his parents house and charges before anything ships?

I find the Nail Gun Massacre release to be somewhat amusing. The first DVD was limited to 250 but the VHS is 1,000. I was one of the fools that bought the limited edition DVD, which was fullscreen, followed by the director putting out the widescreen a few months later.

Looks like he might have received a Paypal perma-ban based on his twitter comments.

I got the first DVD too. Number 63 but mine says 500. As a side note, back when the director Terry Lofton was selling them, he found me online and was trying to get me to buy more to sell to my friends. He was willing to give me a break on the price if I bought 25.

re: Horror Movie Empire shenanigans (was: Blue Underground BDs $10 each)

So it appears we now have two bearded fat men that owe us money:

Couch Cutter

Hello there, my name is David Anthony, the new co-owner here at HorrorMovieEmpire.com. Some of you may know me as the purveyor of CouchCutter.com. Those of you with actual lives, probably do not.

I wanted to address what was going on with the whole Blue-Underground fiasco…
In the most basic of terms, the original owner (and still co-owner), Demetrios was on his own and wasn’t prepared for a mass flood of orders that this sale incurred. He wasn’t prepared, because he never expected it. Though the store did okay, it just hadn’t hit overly impressive numbers up to this point. The response was insane. And we love you all for that.

But the lack of infrastructure and preparation made a huge mess. And Demetrios has since emptied his bank account and nearly lost his business trying to make it right.
It’s bitter sweet that this is what opened the door for me to become a partner at Horror Movie Empire. I sat down with Demetrios, strategizing how to A) clean up the problem that was already made, and B) ensure that it never happens again.

Let me share with you the situation that we are in: There is not currently enough money in our bank accounts to reimburse those of you that haven’t been compensated yet. Nobody went out and bought porsches with this money. Much of it was spent in panic, trying to get the manpower to help sort this mess out. But in the throes of trying to contain a mess that had already gone nuclear, it became clear that the infrastructure, the spine wasn’t there to support this ordeal to begin with. Information was scattered and lost, pornographic amounts of money was spent, animals were sacrificed… It was bad.

Seriously, though… What happened was inexcusable. The whole problem going on now is deplorable. But what I can guarantee you, is that everyone will be recompensated and *none* of this was done out of any malice on Demetrios’ part. He’s a good, genre-loving dude that got caught off guard, and unfortunately there were consequences that affected many of you.

This is what we are going to do about it: The store has been shut down since late March. We have re-opened and I will be temporarily taking over so Demetrios can take care of you folks that still need taking care of. From this day forward, we will not pocket *a dime* from Horror Movie Empire sales until everyone is reimbursed for their order. There’s nothing we can give you that will make up for the negative experience you’ve had here, but we will do everything humanly possible to restore your losses.

As you look around the site, I think you will notice a lot of changes. Well
, those aren’t just cosmetic. The Horror Movie Empire of old is dead and a new era begins. We have new shipping procedures and infrastructures, strategies to bring you even more great deals, and even more products!

While Demetrios spends 90% of his time straightening out with the remaining few of you that have not been compensated for your order, I will be handling many of your inquiries.

Thank you for your patience and your patronage.

I guess that I won't be getting my DVDs and gift certificate for the shop for my entire order that Demetrios promised.

As they've lost all their former/current customers and can't possibly hope to attract any new ones, how will they reimburse the dozens of people whose money they stole (intentionally or not)?

Is that Demetrios on the plate in the picture?

Seriously, the brand HME has been so reviled that guy should've bought Facebook stock instead.

Given AB's scant output the last few years, that would be a pretty limited sale.
