It will also be released in this beautiful 30th Anniversary Blu-ray digibook edition. That's the one I plan on getting. For me, the packaging is an important element of collecting. Image and sound generally trump such decisions but I gladly dumped the original release of "Labyrinth" for the new digibook (I own nearly every digibook ever released). I have no plans of upgrading either my display or Blu-ray player. So, Blu-ray it is.

Many/all are slashed, for those who care about that. I usually don't, but was disappointed to see that the Wizard of Oz I picked up had the slash go through the cardboard slipcase, into the Blu-ray case, and into the cover art. I still would have minded less, but it is the front cover that lines up with the back slip, so that's where the slash is. Otoh, I had a $5 off $15 coupon, so $3.33 each made it better.

Finally saw a few of these today. Eat Pray Love, Angels & Demons, Boondock Saints II for $5.

Also found Get the Gringo (Dollar Tree recently had this for a buck if you were fortunate enough to find it) & Gentlemen Broncos for $3. I bought the latter as a blind buy.

I'm pretty sure the one I saw today was $5. It's very difficult to pick up anything these days for $5. If I receive a coupon soon, I might go back for it.

I'd probably pay $5 for Labyrinth on blu; but I wouldn't make a special trip.

Big Lots Blu Ray Deals

There are bunch of Blu Ray's on clearance at Big Lots for $1.25. They are clearly marked as clearance with the $1.25 price.

I pickup up

Meet Dave
Damage
SWAT
Deception
Cheaper by the Dozen 2
The One
Gulliver’s Travel (BD+DVD+DC)
Southland Tales

I thought it would be good to have a Big Lots Blu Ray thread. There is one in the DVD section but many of us may not go there.

There is a thread that had fallen back to page 2 since there hasn't been much to report: http://forum.dvdtalk.com/blu-ray-bar...l#post12822616

I have 2 stores that I check on occasion. Both have had some things on clearance, but it's usually small amounts of DVDs. The most interesting thing I've seen recently is the 3rd season of The League for the same $1.25.

Is the Gulliver the classic feature length cartoon, or something else?

It's the recent movie with Jack Black, which was in 3D and available that way separately but not in the edition Big Lots is selling.

The only "Gulliver's Travels" worth owning is the animated classic produced by Max and Dave Fleischer—the same brothers responsible for the vintage "Superman," "Popeye" and "Betty Boop" cartoons. The only version worth owning on Blu-ray was released by independent distributor Thunderbean which is run by animation enthusiast Steve Stanchfield. They did an eye-popping restoration of the film but unfortunately it is currently OOP. Steve has remarked over at Blu-ray.com that he plans an encore pressing when the funds are available. I regret every day that I sold my copy.

Caution: Don't confuse it with the horrendous disc released previously by Koch media—that version is an abomination.

Have to humbly disagree, personally I was very impressed with the Hallmark Channel version. Granted it wasn't as bitterly cynical as the book (although it definitely tread into that territory), and the truncated take on the fleet towing scene was disappointing (a nod to budgetary concerns, but still it is an iconic scene in both the literary and theatrical sense and deserved better).

But I found it dramatically impressive, technically competent, fairly literary faithful, and emotionally moving. I'd buy it again on Blu-Ray in a heartbeat if it existed in that format.

If that's the one with Ted Danson, well, I'll just say I remember seeing it but it didn't make an indelible mark. Granted, the Fleischer version has a whole lot of nostalgia associated in viewing it. When I was a young boy, it played every Thanksgiving.along with Laurel and Hardy's "March of the Wooden Soldiers." But the Fleischer's animated version is a bona fide classic. It was one of the first full-length animated features produced and I can't wait to grab a copy when it is available again. But to each his own.

At mine they were with the rest of the movies. They've really lowered this stock. Just one 4 sided bin. 1 side with TV shows, 1 side with cd/dvds, 1 side clearance and 1 side Blu Rays/DVDs. It was at the Lakewood, CA biglots.

Re: Big Lots Blu-rays

Certainly seems like BL is gradually phasing out physical media in their B&M's. Hit 3 locations today and selections have been whittled down to a single 4 sided display, one of which is exclusively CD's. Few BDs remain and the less talked about the DVD selections, the better. One side of the rack is called Clearance and has some BD's and DVD's special priced but they are a very small selection. One of the stores had a few sets of Office and Two and a half men marked down to $2 and $2.50.

I picked up
X-Files - I want to believe: Ultimate X-Phile edition - $1.25 (clearance)
The Big Year - $1.25 (clearance)
Return To Nim's Island - $3
Messengers/Freedomland Mill Creek 2 pack - $3

Most certain that movie media will soon be a thing of the past at BL. Am flashing back to 2007 and 2008 when I loaded up on tons of MGM, Warner, Universal, Sony dumps at $3 - unbelievable selections and stores overflowing with them. Good days !

I've actually eliminated periodic visits to Big Lots this summer checking for media goodies. The chain is now simply a low-rent version of Wal-Mart without the thousands of extra products.

Yeah, there was a time I enjoyed going into Dollar General and Big Lots looking for treasure. I never go out of my way anymore. If I am in the neighborhood, I'll stop by to check it out.

The one right next to the Lakewood mall. Across from the El Torito. The one you went to is on Bellflower in Long Beach next to the USPS and Trader Joes. That one rarely has good stuff. The one in Lakewood by the mall has a better selection. At least it used to before they started phasing the media out.

I came across these discs. There were single copies of each movie. A few new $3 DVDs but nothing worth mentioning, mostly direct-to-video films like Bad Country.

The most impressive sighting was a sole copy of Jetsons Season One on DVD for $8.

Picked up the following:

http://i68.tinypic.com/38vig.jpg

Gravity Blu 3D $5.00
Pacific Rim Blu 3D $5.00
Prison Break S3 DVD $5.00

Bruno DVD $0.47 reduced from $1.88 75% off (bought 3 copies for the cases, will throw away the artwork and discs.)

Two and a Half Men S9 $2.00 reduced from $8.00 75% off
Elizabeth The Golden Age DVD $1.25 reduced from $5.00 75% off

There was only one copy each of the 3D's.

The two Big Lots stores in my area don't have much anymore.

Both have switched to similar layouts. They still have a ton of DVDs but not many Blu-Rays anymore. One of the stores did have 1 copy each of the Pacific Rim & Gravity 3-D Blu-Rays.

Last week, my nearest BL only had Blu-rays of Beastly (2 copies), unrated edition of The Last Exorcism Part II (1 copy) , Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs (1 copy), and Blu-ray 3D of Pacific Rim (1 copy).

But they had a ton of $5 Looney Tunes DVDs.

Regarding Pacific Rim 3D and Gravity 3D - can someone post what is inside ( since the slip cover is missing it is hard to tell)

1. Are the 3D and 2D on separate disc
2. Is it 3D + BD = DC or
3. 3D + BD + DVD + DC.

I already have BD+DVD+DC of both movies with slip cover and pacific Rim with Lenticular cover. I only paid $5 for those. Wondering if I should double dip just for 3D.

Thanks in advance
