Re: Big Lots Blu-rays

I figure it's just a simple lack of overstock/closeout product. DVD sales are way down, many new titles are from "boutique" type distributors (Kino, ClassicFlix, etc.) who generally print fewer copies, and distributors don't stock nearly as many copies as in the past which means fewer for places like BL. The last few times I bothered looking at the WM dump bins it appeared to be the same titles that've been there for over a year. Same reason that BL has fewer titles.

Re: Big Lots Blu-rays

I am guessing if dvd sales are way down cause now u got blu ray and 4k. now u got streaming and even streaming movies has become webrips so u can get those and make dvd for ur own wants any and any extras u find those any way possible and got ur own movie with any extra u really wanna keep. but since u got media at a variety places now from real cheap to expensive kinda that some or many stores are not selling media as much as before kinda so like big lots, 99 cent stores get some or any, and thrift stores get some by chance used or new anytime now i think still. i have not asked but guess some stores are still getting media or not for any reason.

BL sent out an email with a large clearance sale. Movies aren't mentioned. Does anyone know if they're including them?

They weren't yesterday when I was in the local store - lots of other things were. That sale is mostly all the summer stuff - deck furniture, gazebos, fake plants, pools, etc. and some furniture.

Re: Big Lots Blu-rays

I'm in my closest store frequently and discoverd a bunch of new stuff in the same old display. It wasn't obvious until you got close and looked. Some things were "repeats".

Here's a few things I noted:

Atlantis: Season 1 (BBC) - $5.99
Carrie (the original) - $3.99
The Flash: Season 1 - $9.99
Stargate: Atlantis: Season 3 - $7.99

New things in my display on DVD:

Battlestar Galactica: Season 20 - $7.99
DC's Legends of Tomorrow: Season 1 - $7.99
DC's Legends of Tomorrow: Season 2 - $7.99
The Flash: Season 2 - $9.99
Fraggle Rock: Season 1 - $8.99
Murder One: Season 1 - $8.99
The Riches: Season 1 - $6.99
Robin Hood: Season 1 (BBC) - $6.99
The Rockford Files: Season 4 - $6.99
Wayward Pines: Season 1 - $6.99
X-Files: Season 8 - $12.99

I used the current $10 off $40 coupon (expiring today) along with a couple of $5 coupons from my own account and picked up The Riches, Wayward Pines and the 2nd season of The Magnificent Seven ($4.99) which has been in my store for a number of weeks.

Re: Big Lots Blu-rays

I found 2 MI: Ghost Protocol steelbooks at my local BL for $5.99. Already have it but lucky for me they had both MI 5 & 6 for $4.99 which I picked up to complete my MI collection. Can't remember any other titles they had.

Re: Big Lots Blu-rays

Two notes which may be of interest:

You can get a $5 off $15 coupon if you make a donation at the register when prompted at check-out. Be reminded that you can give a dollar amount or round up your purchase. It's even possible to donate a penny and receive the coupon if your total before paying is something like $1.99. I know because I tested it out. The coupon is good through November 12th.

Also, my local store marked down tons of their media stuff this week. I bet it was nearly 75% of the items previously priced at $3 or $5 (both DVDs and BDs) were now either $0.77 or $1.27. This obviously applies to titles which have been out there for a while, considering all the newer stuff is priced at $x.99. I'm not sure about anyone else, but there's a few things out there I've passed up at $5 and had no problem picking up for less than a buck. Could be YMMV, obviously.

For less than a buck I sometimes pick up stuff just to get a few new cases to replace those that arrive broken from Amazon and others.

Re: Big Lots Blu-rays

I went into the local BL yesterday. I'd guess about 20% of movies were on low clearance prices. Problem was the clearance tags were right underneath the regular price tags, & all the movies were displayed spine out; i.e. one had to pull out every movie to see what was on sale.

Also a suggestion: I'm seeing way too many BL posts duplicated in br & DVD. Maybe it's time to combine br's & dvd's? There are so few dvd posts I doubt it it would cause much trouble for anyone.

Whenenver I get Blu-rays and DVDs at Big Lots, I usually just post them all here! I rarely visit the DVD bargains section.

Re: Big Lots Blu-rays

The DVD bargain sub-forum is virtually dead. I actually throw them a couple pity posts over there but it would be almost useless if the anime deals thread wasn't there. At this point the Blu-ray and DVD bargain areas need to be combined.

That's a great price for Black Sails, which has fantastic A/V quality.

For what it's worth, there were 2 copies of the Black Sails set (same with the 2 Walking Dead seasons) at my store.

Of what's been listed, I only saw The Universe and one or two of The Walking Dead sets here. They may have had some of the others as I only made it by last night.

Some I remember they had on BR here (didn't think to make a list):

Thrills & Chills! - a 4 movie set with Pet Sematary (2019), A Quiet Place (2018), Crawl (2019), and Overlord (2018) - $7.99
Carrie (1976) - $3.99
The Road Warrior (1981) - $4.99

I've been to the local store 2x this week. Nothing new, the films are hard to get to, & this fairly new "superstore" is pretty empty (product & customers).

Re: Big Lots Blu-rays

While an hour away from home, I stopped by another store and discovered yet more new stuff!

I was most pleased to see American Underdog for $4.99. I caught this when it was in theaters and was glad to buy it, using one of the $5 receipt coupons and $10 worth of food, etc. It had the look of a gift set of sorts. When I opened it up, it included a journal.

I also picked up a film I hadn't seen before at Big Lots -- A Fantastic Woman. This store had all their clearance movies in the store's clearance section with other merchandise. This particular BD was 77 cents.

A few other new-to-me BDs: Gravity ($2.99), The Meg ($5.99) and a Girls' Night 5-Movie Collection ($11.99 - Bridesmaids, Girls Trip, Bridesmaids, Sisters, Trainwreck)

I wish the local BL would separate clearance discs.
