DVD's 25%off

Agreed, still not low enough. Have about 5 titles I'll bite on at 60% and another 3-4 titles that I would bite on at 70%. Other than that nothing else there that even entices me at a greater % off that most likely will not be there anyways by that time.

There is a part of me that wants to buy a couch that people have been fartin into while reading their highfalutin books and thinking their overpriced thoughts. Considering how pretentious i am, it would go well with my coffee table.

Are they planning on keeping the website open? I'm surprised they haven't started any sales or clearances online...

Yeah, most likely like tower.com, circuitcity.com, and compusa.com, the borders.com website will go on to have a long (unaffiliated) life after the B&M shuts down.

If B&N just didn't have their Criterion sale.
THe Criterion blu's for $18 if you have rewards plus or $20 without, would not be a bad deal, maybe the only product worth getting right now.
But they don't have many in stock, and just like the rest of thes GOOB sales that most stores have, seams like alot of people still pay to WAY to much.

Also i was told at the store in corvallis oregon and read it online too.
That they Borders will be getting more merchandise in,but it is anyone guess what will be coming in.lol

I was told that they get daily shipments but never know what category of items etc. are coming in. Also, they don't know until the night before what discounts are changing either.

Most of the Blu's are still behind a locked case at my store, I wasn't about to try and track an employee down to wait there while I checked the price of any Blu I would possibly want (and most likely wouldn't have gotten anyway).

And that's why when the sale was at 40% and obviously nothing was selling I just wrote down all the titles I wanted. Then went home and looked up their list prices. You can find that on borders.com or bluray.com for example. Of the 8 or so movies I wrote down only 1 has sold and almost certain that a title came in after I first had checked.

Email says Monday through Wednesday take an additional 10% off sale price.

Also, back orders on borders.com apparently are being cancelled.

Is that a coupon or is it automatically applied in store? Also, is that for everyone or just rewards members?

I'm still amazed they shipped my Complete Stargate Atlantis set on July 25. But they didn't post my Rewards points for it in July, unfortunately, cuz I would have hit $5 rewards to spend in August.

All I know it was in a Borders Rewards email. There was no coupon.

I just got an e-mail yesterday (Monday) stating that Super Blu-ray had shipped. There's still hope for those with backorders/preorders.

I'm still waiting (two and a half weeks now) for a new gift card from a return. The e-mail said ten business days. I called on day 11 and was told, "Give it another week." So I wait. I want to burn it and $50 more gift cards ASAP.

Well, circuitcity.com and compusa.com both closed first, then the website names were purchased by tigerdirect.com (all owned by Systemax). It's basically the same store at all 3 URL's. I think tower.com was also bought out by someone else. So I'd be surprised if borders.com didn't close, at least for a little while...

THat wasn't for everything. It was music and some books.

Also today is the last day for the extra 5% off for plus members.

They fudge the number and say 10% but that comes off the final total so it comes to only about 5%.
Example.
Price is $20 - the current 50% off = $10 minus another 10% off comes to another $1 off for a final total of $9 or 55% off the initial price.
If it was really an extra 10% off it would be 60% off for a fina price of $8.

Not that it matters anymore.

I was in a local Borders the other day. They kept all their Blu's on a shelf behind the register. Who is going to stand in front of the register and look at the Blu's behind the counter? That's awkward and you can barely make out the titles standing there.

I don't need a math lesson. And you are the one fudging numbers. All member discounts be they Borders, B&N, FYE etc. are taken off the selling price and not list price. The fact that it's 5% off list doesn't mean they fudge.

whotony 08-12-11 08:58 PM

Re: Borders Blu Rays 50% off and

You apparently didn't look at what I posted and why so defensive. I never said you needed a math lesson.

I said they take the extra ten percent off the final price after all other discounts.
They way they sell it to you makes it sound like instead of 40% off you get 50% off the price and you do not.

What's the difference anyway there is no more plus rewards it's over. Try not to act so injured when some one is simply having a discussion with you when you disagree with the other persons comments.

You'd think it would be clear by now that I simply don't like you so I argue with you on occassion. But based on your (lack of) punctuation skills, I can see you are a little slow and might have trouble figuring that out.

I don't remember arguing with you before. How can you be so angry at someone you don't know and never met.
So sorry about your anger issues I hope you resolve them someday.

There are SOME deals to be had. For example, A Beautiful Mind was priced normally at I think at 16.99... 50% off, that's pretty good. There were some others, but mostly yeah, it's cheaper to go to Amazon for a lot of their stuff. But some careful browsing CAN yield some nice results.

I found a couple gift cards and figured I better use them before it was too late.

No BDs were cheap enough to bite, but I picked up a couple graphic novels.

Fwiw, the clerks were pretty sure they'd last until at least mid-September. They (Sterling VA) were a larger store and they are still getting new stock in as smaller stores close.

Re: Borders Blu Rays 50% off and

Blu-rays spotted at the Mount Laurel, NJ store (prices are after discount):

The Ultimate Matrix Collection $26 (one copy, front counter)
Coraline w/3d glasses $10
The Man in the Iron Mask (OOP) $15

Also several copies of Life and Planet Earth at the front counter, but 50% off only brings them down to ~$55.

Yeah, I went to the Ward Centre one today and the BD section was very sparse. I just blind bought Senso BD $12 and a couple of other things. The only other film I was moderately interested in was The Midnight Meat Train but I couldn't really justify paying $9 for that.

For some reason, there were still a bunch of Twilight BD there.

That's the biggest reason why I didn't go to any of the store closing sales when both of my stores closed (well, the nearest one closed a while ago and the one about 10 miles away is closing very soon). The last time I had entered a Borders store (probably sometime in late 2010 or very early 2011), they had exactly 2 tiny "pyramids" of BD titles... maybe 30 total, and for DVDs they had another slightly larger display. Unless they shipped in a bunch of new stock for the store closing (highly unlikely) I already knew they had nothing worth looking at to begin with, so why bother going?

Now if I had time and were into reading books, then I might've gone. I surely won't miss Borders. What's sad is that the Borders that already closed was the last store left in an entire corner "strip mall"... now it's totally empty. When it was full it used to have Best Buy, Comp USA, Staples, Borders, Cost Plus World Market, Marshall's or Mervyn's (I always get them mixed up), and various smaller stores. I feel sorry for the owner of that strip mall which generates $0 of rent per month.

Had the morning off, so I decide to stop in. Not much there in the way of BDs (Twilight, Alvin and the Chipmunks, Sunshine Cleaners, Men Who Stare at Goats in abundance). This store has 8 days left according to the signs in the windows. Ended up with a few books and U2 360 at The Rose Bowl for $8.10 + tax.
