Criterion Blu-ray Sale at Amazon

Re: Criterion Blu-ray Sale at Amazon
I just had the "Still Walking" DVD show up in my Quick Picks. I get really annoyed when a title I'm interested in shows up in my Quick Picks in SD. You would think Amazon would notice a pattern in my shopping. But, then again, my other picks are a pack of Canon ink cartridges (I don't own a Canon printer), a flashlight, and some tanning lotion (for 83% off!). I haven't looked for anything related to these items.
I'm not really complaining, it's nice that there are a Quick Picks section, but I thought this was primarily based off viewing history and purchase history.
All of that said, I haven't bought anything from this sale, been too busy to watch any of the films up for sale and I bought around 10 titles in the last B&N sale, so that has kept me plenty busy.

I ordered the Naruse Eclipse set yesterday morning, and it was delivered by courier yesterday afternoon. I've had a couple of same-day deliveries before, but never on a Sunday.

Re: Criterion Blu-ray Sale at Amazon
I find that QuickPicks on Amazon are very timely based on what you looked at recently and are triggered in a big way by buying something from a group.
I kept everyday looking at Criterion titles as the sale started. Being sure to browse them a couple of times, and not look at anything else at the store. Early last week, I got a hit... Blow Out. I purchased this with a pre-order title from July. Then I viewed the other titles I wanted, but did not put them in my cart or wishlist them or anything special.
The next day I got a gold box FULL of Criterions. Just one I wanted, Broadcast News. Bought this with a preorder from July for free shipping. I then surfed a few more criterions I wanted. I racked up one more I wanted late last week. I then combined my titles into one order... dropping the pre-orders. Scored three with goldbox discount on one order this way. This only worked because Amazon is so backordered on these.
Now, mind you, I did nothing but look at Criterions. I did not browse around Amazon for an hour looking at misc stuff. Over the weekend I looked at water bowls for my dogs among a ton of DVD/BR browsing. I got nothing but dog stuff on Sunday and Today.
I've found all it takes is one bad search to get a bunch of junk in your Quick Picks. I remember searching for movie titles once and hitting upon some boy band name from the late 90s. All it did was appear as the results of a random search. My next day, my quick picks were full of New Kids, Brittany, Mandy Moore, and other wonderful musicians.

Deal indeed seems to have died as of 5/9. BBS Story is back up to $91.49 (yes, from Amazon) and Blow Out is $27.99.
I only bought Blow Out but that's OK. I didn't have to have the others right now.

Looks like a number are still under $20 (Sweet Smell of Success, etc.). Not as good as last week, but not terrible if you're kicking yourself for missing something.

With the cash back I receive from my Amazon Visa card, I decided the prices were too good to pass up, so I ordered quite a few. I think I'm happy the sale ended because I might have ordered a few more if I had the chance. This will tide me over quite well until the next B&N sale.

Not part of the sale we've all been discussing, but The Last Emperor just dipped in price from $31.99 to $24.99.

My Quick Picks have returned to nil. Pffft.
Har. The only thing dumber than dogs are dog owners. OTOH, cats are most assuredly evil. Heck, one of ours has her own FaceSpace page: www.haterkitty.com

Re: Criterion Blu-ray Sale at Amazon
All my backordered Criterions except for Blow Out shipped today. Paths of Glory is still at the $17.99 sale price, but everything else I picked up has increased by $1-$10 since yesterday.
BTW, Amazon is really making me miss my Prime trial lately. My "In Stock" Vicar of Dibley set finally shipped after a week and half. Another third party order fulfilled by Amazon didn't ship for almost a week. Maybe it's due to all the severe weather, but it's never taken them that long to process a shipment before.

Never forget, motherfucker. I actually felt bad for Amazon cuz they were so game to refund me. It wasn't their fault but damn them and their mindset on giving great customer service.

Re: Criterion Blu-ray Sale at Amazon
Looks like the sale is over. I picked up those titles that I absolutely had to have, except for the BBS box which was in my picks for $50, which I couldn''t pass up since I could always resell...will wait for B&N sale for the others.

Re: Criterion Blu-ray Sale at Amazon
Not sure if this is old news, but many of these Criterions stayed at (or near-ish) the discount price, and it seems like others have come back down. I've been getting Gold Box deals on Criterions almost daily since the sale supposedly ended and several have been in the under $20 range.
Here's a few that still seem to be on sale:
PATHS OF GLORY - $17.99
AMARCORD - $20.99
RED SHOES - $19.99
BROADCAST NEWS - $20.99
SWEET SMELL OF SUCCESS - $20.99
BLOWOUT - $18.99
LE CERCLE ROUGE - $20.99
MODERN TIMES - $20.99
. . . etc. etc.
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_no...on+blu&x=0&y=0
Some of these may have been 50 cents or a dollar cheaper at the height of the sale (not sure) but figured these might still hold interest.
