TARGET Blu-ray bargains

This was mentioned in the HD forum, but was surprised there was no thread in BR bargains. (Thank you, Matthew Chmiel for this thread)

Mill Creek has released a lot of Touchstone titles for 9.98 MSRP. Right now they are $5 at Target (the SD's are $2). The ones I remember seeing are:
Another Stake-out
Big Business
Gross Anatomy
Straight Talk

I don't remember seeing these, but either I missed them or they will show up later:
Consenting Adults

The Gun in Betty Lou's Handbag
An Innocent Man
Money for Nothing

I'd buy most of these for $5. Thanks OP!

I can't even see one of those I would spend $5 to buy, or even rent. But man...I guess they know what they are doing if people will buy those in bulk. More power to you. Enjoy them.

Re: TARGET Blu-ray bargains

Of the ones mentioned, I wouldn't mind having Gross Anatomy (and maybe Straight Talk), but it doesn't look like the transfer is anything to get excited about.

Went to my Target but they didn't have any of those. Might call the one across town as I am interested in Another Stakeout.

does target have a exclusivtiy window on these titles?
Did they have a target exclusive sticker on the front of any of them?
cause these are all suppose to release next month.

if someone else can verify that these have been seen in target and for 5 bucks, it might be a smart idea to notify amazon of targets low price and perhaps they will price match on the pre orders. they did last year with the lionsgate catalog titles that bestbuy had a exclusive window on and with the two adam sandler comedys around black friday as well.
doesnt hurt to try.

Re: TARGET Blu-ray bargains

I can confirm these four being in Target stores already and for $5

Another Stake-out
Big Business
Gross Anatomy
Straight Talk

They do not have the Only at Target sticker on them like the other batch (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Overboard, etc.) had so I'm not sure what the deal is exactly.

Are all of these releases barebones? I'm more interested in the titles on the 2nd list, probably nothing on the first list...

Re: TARGET Blu-ray bargains

I don't remember any special features listed at all. I did notice that even the cases look cheap. The top part of the case where it says "blu-ray" in white looks like the paint faded off. I guess I'd like to get some report on the quality of the transfers before buying any. Only one person reported buying it and he said that the transfer was nothing special.

Re: TARGET Blu-ray bargains

Nothing really 'wrong' with "Gross Anatomy", just that the movie itself isn't very spectacular. Buy it if you like the movie, but if you're looking for something to show off your hi-def system buy Avatar or something like that.

The case mine came in seemed normal- wasn't an Eco-Case!

I bought "The Gun In Betty Lou's Handbag" on laserdisc for $3.88 at Camelot Music more than 13 years ago and STILL haven't watched it yet!

I was considering An Innocent Man until I noticed it is P&S. Are there any other films on Blu-ray that are cropped?

Surely that's an Amazon misprint. If you click on Straight Talk it also shows the a/r is 1.33 but one reviewer confirms it's actually 1.78.

All 2.0 Lossless.

No Special Features.

It's about as cheap as possible...and that's why they are the price of a Big Mac meal at McDonalds.

They are taking advantage of people who automatically equate Blu-ray with improved quality. If there's no restoration or at least some added special feature it's not an upgrade; it's the SOS on a different medium and a waste of money....even if it's just $5.

Straight Talk has only ever been released full frame on DVD, the bluray is widescreen. That in and of itself is an upgrade for me.

i agree with poster below you who said the fact that its being released in it OAR for the first time is definately a upgrade.

you do realize no one is telling you to buy these right, perhaps instead of knocking these releases (since its obvious you arent intrested in them) you can let those of us who appreciate them getting any sort of bluray release be happy. I mean really if it wasnt for mill creek these would most likely never see a bd release through disney
