$79 for Prime and unlimited VOD, I would buy in today......if they would work on my PS3. I refuse to buy another device.

The Prime Student accounts aren't eligible: you have to upgrade to the paid Prime membership. That's a sweet deal, I'll have to think about upgrading.

Re: Amazon VOD now FREE with PRIME!

That is awesome.

I totally get more than my money's worth out of prime already, so this is an unexpected bonus. Thanks for sharing the news. I really like their VOD.

Sucks that it doesn't work with the student accounts, but it's definitely a good deal. If PS3 and Android get apps for their VOD, I'm sold!

So around $6.67 a month for prime plus unlimited VOD. Since I now have high speed, I may have to get this. That's one hell of a deal!

It would be even better if there were more new releases .... I know NetFlix doesn't have them either... or a discount on newer releases ... the selection seems light right now.. although I am sure they will expand that in the future.. as they want to compete with NetFlix...

It isn't the entire VOD library. It says 5000 movies and TV shows, but if you look at the eligible list, it is only 1669 movies and 484 TV show seasons. They must be counting individual TV episodes to reach that 5000 number.

Re: Amazon VOD now FREE with PRIME!

From what I read on SD, this is only for paid Prime accounts. As mentioned above, the free student Prime doesn't work, and people on SD say free Amazon Mom doesn't work either. As much as I like Amazon, I can't imagine I'll ever pay $79 per year for Amazon Prime. So this deal doesn't help me.

Amazon Prime was already a great deal, and this just makes it better. Great news!

I've never used VOD with Amazon. Do you have to watch it on the PC or can you stream to your TV if you have wireless?

Same here. I believe you have to watch it through your web browser with flash. I assume you could resize the screen and hopefully it doesn't look blocky. Unfortunately watching on a computer monitor would be inferior to watching on a nice TV, but I don't know any way to make it work without running a very long VGA (or DVI->HDMI) cable from my computer to my TV, and I'm not sure how that will look. I know in the past that sometimes videos don't show up there (or maybe that's some sort of protection when using dual monitor mode). So I've never bothered watching VODs (I just bought a few promo ones to get $4 off on titles I want).

Nice free bonus for me, I suppose, but it seems like it's a very limited selection and most of the movies I've heard of are already streaming from Netflix.

Re: Amazon VOD now FREE with PRIME!

What am I missing about Prime being a great deal? I order a lot of shit on Amazon and just use the free shipping option. I'm paying $80 to get it sooner? Meh. Now the VOD is intriguing. But in reality, I already have Netflix and I do use AVOD for the occasional new release. But new releases won't be included, will they? So, again, meh.

Not only do you get it faster, there's no minimum order to get free shipping with Prime. It means when that Blu-ray I've been waiting on to drop in price finally hits 9.99 I can order it without having to pad my order to $25 to get free shipping. I get more deals with Prime.

Free shipping as long as you're increasing your order to $25 or more. I can get my $5 widgets for $5 total and I get it within a day or two.

It doesn't work for the Amazon Mom accounts, which I still have. It would have been nice to be able to stream kids shows, but since I will most likely still be using getting free prime shipping because of the Amazon Mom program, I don't see myself dropping the cash to upgrade my plan at the moment.

There are many ways to watch it on your TV. Here is a list.

Re: Amazon VOD now FREE with PRIME!

I had 35 orders in 2010 and 19 of them were under the $25 free shipping limit. During Black Friday Week, there were so many $5 and $10 single item Lightning Deals that with Prime were a matter of click-click-click-back to bed without $3-$5 in standard shipping charges to wipe out the bargain. (2-day shipping would be $7-$12. EACH!) My g/f and I used to save up our purchases to combine them for free shipping, now it's, "Whoops! Your dad's birthday is in two days and he wants that book, so BAM!!! DONE!!!" $15 book delivered in two days for $15.

If you don't shop much at Amazon or routinely buy pricey stuff, Prime may not be that great a deal, but if you buy a ton of little things, it's worth it. This VOD thing is just a cherry on top.

Re: Amazon VOD now FREE with PRIME!

Hmm...tempting, especially if VOD gets on PS3. I have a Roku, which Amazon VOD works with, so it's not a huge issue, but I'd rather do everything through one device.

I'm with you. I've never unsderstood it either. I normally get my stuff within 3-5 days anyway....OK with me. If I can't find another irem or two to get to $25, I'll wait until I can.
