As far as I'm concerned, Prime is a must-have from Black Friday through Christmas. That being said, I'm perfectly fine with FREE Prime from Amazon Mom or Student. Unless the free options disappear before Black Friday, I have no intention of paying money for Prime, just to get VOD with LIMITED titles. But if the free options go away, then I just might pony up the $79, since I do feel I'd get my money's worth overall. But the VOD by itself is not worth it to me... Netflix has much more titles...

Exactly. A few things of interest but not much. Almost no HD, most is SD and stereo, not even 5.1. I'm underwhelmed.

Okay ... I'll bite. It's video and it's streaming over the Internet and I select what show to watch and when ... so how is that not on-demand Video streaming?

I think a lot of people don't know this. You can add other Amazon customers to your Prime account. I think the limit is 4. I've added my Brother's family in Virginia and my Grandmother in California. For one $79 payment, all of us get the Prime shipping. Find some friends or family members and split the cost.

Amazon changed the name of "Video on Demand" to "Amazon Instant Video".... then a subset of their "Instant Video" titles are available w/o charge to Paid Prime Members....

My hope is that they open up the catalog... or make it so you can watch a certain amount of new release stuff per month w/o charge...

Amazon already has a Video on Demand service. You rent or sometimes buy TV episodes and movies. You pay per episode or movie from 99 cents to 5.99 movies (some in HD). From the wording of the OP it makes it seem like they simply added streaming to that. There are plenty of selections that remain on pay-only viewing.

Even older titles that I last watched on VOD (Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Thriller) aren't included in the streaming library. New release movies part of VOD certainly aren't being included in the deal. Not that I expected them to be but others seem to think that.

This is a sweet deal... if a lot of the material that currently exists for streaming wasn't on Netflix and/or Hulu Plus.

I have a Student Prime account, so, um, I'll upgrade to a paid membership once they get some exclusives.

I fell like an idiot. Can't figure out how to watch these on my Tivo. When I go on my computer I can stream it but there is not download option even though my Tivo's are registered. When I try to search on the Tivo it still says I have to pay?

Can confirm that it does not work with a guest account (ie family member paid for it, and I am one of the shared accounts) Oh well.

I'm also a fan of Amazon Prime. The VOD is just icing on the cake.

Getting new movies and games on (or a day before) release date is the best part. And on Black Friday Week/Cyber Monday, Prime MORE than pays for itself (especially now that Amazon has the timed queue system).

You can't stream Amazon movies/shows on a Tivo. You can only download programs. This service won't work on a Tivo but you can still download paid or free (both non-streaming) stuff from Amazon.

Is this true? Netflix (catalog stock aside) still wins if I can't stream HD content with 5.1.

I saw a few titles listed as 5.1, though it only comes through in 2-channel unless you have enough bandwidth to get the full HD quality.

Amazon prime student is even better, now that my free 1 year is up, I was able to continue on for 39.00 a year for up to 4 years.
and get the free VOD access as well/

wait till your free year of student prime is up then you will be offered to continue student prime for 39 a year for up to 4 years and youll then be able to watch the free VOD as well.

and prime does have exclusives for example all 7 seasons of star trek DS9
since this past august and netflix wont have that till late october.
