Re: Star Wars The Complete Saga Blu-Ray for $89.99 @ Amazon
It was announced earlier in 2010 that the Blu-ray would contain the "Special Editions". I suppose some were hoping the theatrical versions would be included as well but I think it's safe to say that isn't the case or it would have been mentioned in the press release.
I haven't followed the controversy so I don't even know the differences between the 2 versions.

The MSRP on this is 140 for the complete and 70 each for the trilogies. I suggest everyone preorder in case that 50 dollar off price gets jacked up later.
I mean you are getting approx 33 percent off already, it won't get better than this for quite awhile.

I didn't grow up on SW. I was born too late and grew up on action movies of the 80s (was born in '86). Growing up though and later seeing SW on tape...and now seeing it in the eyes of a film major. YEAH...the CG is very distracting and the changes are mostly for the worse. Lucas could never clean that Han/Greedo scene cuz that little manipulation looks dirty and implausible to clean up, visually....at that time..maybe today he can digitally erase Ford and do it cleaner...

I was just thinking, you know what would be awesome?
Have a branching menu at the front that says Greedo and Han
Whichever one you pick it will put that one shooting first in that playthrough. That would be EPIC and make everyone happy

I know I don't have much room to complain, but I've had the LDs, the VHS and two sets of the DVD. I'm going to wait until this baby drops below $40. It will, by the way, just like everything else does. Heck, I bought the Alien set at Amazon for about that much - with a little finagling - a month ago.

I'm caving in although I've probably bought every incarnation of these movies since Star Wars was first available on VHS. Heck, I even bought the $250 Laser Disc set, so what's 90 more bucks? I'll hold onto my nonanamorphic DVDs of the originals though.

Why bother though? NO ONE (except Lucas himself apparently) would ever choose to watch the "Greedo shoots first" version.....in the thousands of posts I have seen by fans on the internet ever since the SE's debuted, I have never once read someone say they like that change....it is easily the most egregious alteration made to the original trilogy....

I ended up returning my Set that I had recieved from amazon the first day of release, because that last week before black friday alot of us were able to order, Alien legacy and Last of the mohicans togeather for a total of 55 bucks
thanks to that 20 off promo amazon had when you bought them both togeather.
the great thing with when alien released was that it was exactly one month before black friday, so i knew if something cheaper came along between release date and BF there would be time to return the original order.
this time since star wars is comming in Sept (in time for my BDAY) there wont be that luxary since BF is about 2 months after this releases in sept, but Heck its star wars I am more than happy to pay 89.99 for all 6 movies on blu.
Great thing about the pre order being up on amazon allready for me is that Iam able to order it while my free year of prime membership is in effect, so free 2 day shipping to recieve on release date,.
Its really awesome that the pre order price this is starting at is ten dollars less than alien legacy which was 2 fewer movies and 3 fewer discs. I was seriously expecting the pre order price for this start about 110-115 since alien started at 97.99-99.99
this could easily drop another 10 to 20 bucks between now and sept as well.

Hell, Back to the Future went from a $79.99 MSRP to $24.99 on Amazon on Cyber Monday (granted the deal only lasted one minute, but I got one).

And I'm also assuming you bought the UK version, so it's definitely not comparable because they havent a announced a UK edition of SW. And if you are talking about the US version of Alien at $40, you got it through some weird pricing mistake, not Amazon's sale price.

Thanks for posting. I put in a pre-order to secure the reasonable $89.99 price just in case it goes up, but I still might end up canceling the order before it's released.

I wouldn't even call them special editions at this point, because that refers to the 1997 version, which is not what we got on DVD, we got all new cuts. Actually, knowing Lucas, I'm expecting all new cuts of all 6 movies on this set.

Caveat Emptor, though, when it comes to picture quality - secrethistoryofstarwars.com/savingstarwars.html (I can't post URLs or I would've linked.)
It's a quick, fascinating read, and just another glimpse into the very short-sighted mind of George Lucas.
