The Seventh Seal Th criterion Collection Blu-Ray came up today as a Quick pick ($17.09). I have never seen it but looked at the trailer for it. It's not in English (the trailer) does anyone own it and if so can I pick English as a lang?

English Subtitles, English overdubs on a classic film is like putting Ketchup on a New York Strip.

I fervently hope not.

yeah. Fuck dubbing. Dubbing w/ a language it wasn't intended to be in takes A LOT out of the acting in foreign language film.

I don't mind it for animated movies. But yeah, I can't imagine watching Let the Right One In without the original kids' voices...

Couldn't resist upgrading Rush Hour for that price. They just need to get off their butts and release Rush Hour 2 so my Blu-ray trilogy will be complete.

I do not mind reading a movie, most of the time I have them on in the background. Even if it was not on the money its gets to the point till I have time to watch it or read it. Ketchup on a New York Strip like it :)

I believe the girls voice in the movie was dubbed with another actress' voice.

I actually tried it to see and it was a completely different movie. It was so bad I couldn't get passed the first 15 minutes. The voices were poorly chosen.

We are talking about The Seventh Seal, this really shouldn't even be a discussion.

But it IS! MADNESS. I'm fortunate to know Spanish cuz the more movies I can watch without subtitles the better. French is one language I'm starting to know. I'd like to say I'd want to learn Japanese and Cantonese but...one day. I have to admit...I'm not used to the Spain Spanish at first so I had to do it w/ subtitles..they're very formal to what I speak.

Yeah. Spanish I'm good with. French is so-so, but it is somewhat easier to not read every word and get a good understanding if you happen to miss a word or two. Germanic languages and Japanese, I'm screwed on, though.

However, I'll read every damn word of a Kurosawa film, and to think someone may have seen one of his films with Mifune's voice dubbed is just disheartening.

Yeah...that voice for Mifune (or most actors actually) is ESSENTIAL to the performance. I still can't believe drq2 wants to see The Seventh Seal in English. Preposterous. Learn the language or deal w/ it.

It was a double Amazon deal. $17.99 and a Quick Pick (the QP was on my qp, the other was for everyone). Being it was a Amazon deal and this is a Amazon thread I posted the question here.

Kindav like Office Space. I have no idea if I should up grade but again a double deal.

Not the discussion of the sale...but the discussion of asking for it w/ an English dubbing. That's where it all went wrong, sir.

Yeah, but in his defense, he asked a simple question. Which in turn, rather than give a simple yes or no with maybe a little bit of explanation, the film snobs in the thread suddenly went all omg oh no he didn't. Regardless of whether it is appropriate or not (I support original language as much as anybody else, I am just not a snob about it), it could be answered quickly and then back to topic we go.

Back on topic, I saw Messenger, the Joan of Arc movie with Mila dip down to $5.99. Underrated movie IMHO, especially at that price.
