The Walking Dead was one of the best television events of the last year. XD It's not only a great television show, It's a great survival story.

Yes it is. A lot of Paramount catalog Blus are OOP. You might be able to find Zodiac at your local Blockbuster as part of a 2 for $15 sale. I paid just over $11 for it used when it was still in print and going for $25-$30 brand new and don't regret it one bit.

fuck...and amazon still has that bitch at a high price? damn.

Your holding off because of the $1.15 difference?

The Walking Dead S1 Blu-ray set was in my Quick Picks yesterday so I caved and ordered it for the $21.84 price. It sounds silly, I know, but that is what pushed me towards making the purchase now. I probably would have simply waited for a better price down the road if that hadn't happened.

I'm not really holding off. I planned on buying it at BB this week since I have credit there, I just haven't done it yet since I'm in no hurry. But yes, I would order it from Amazon instead to save $2.45 (includes tax savings).

It's a bargains forum. Why are you surprised by that?

The $20 Best Buy credit was from that promotion they did in December/January. It was sent to me for free from Best Buy, ergo the final cost for me in buying Kong Blu is $5.99. However, in the interest of math, semantics and OCD specificity, yes, I am using the credit so the final price is indeed $25.99, but I choose to look at it as only being $5.99 since I had no intention of using the BB credit for anything else, which would have rendered it worthless to me.;)

Nuts. I got my blu-ray Walking Dead season 1 for 22.09. I should have held out.

Off topic, sorry, but since Zodiac is a high priced (and apparently OOP) title that has entered the discussion... If you have a Columbia House membership, it is on sale *new* right now for $12.56. I had to pay shipping so it was actually $15.55. Not great but better than Amazon and another alternative if you can't find a cheaper copy.

You still have to account for the intrinsic value of the credit. You might deem it worthless, but there is still a value to the credit. You could probably get $15-$18 for it on the market. It has nothing to do with semantics or being OCD and everything to do with proper math and accounting principles. $5.99 out of pocket is a lot different than $5.99 total cost.

I know I'm not the only person on this board who gets pissed when people post a "deal" but decline to include the store credit that they apply to the purchase.

The Rock BD was $9.49 last time I looked today. It was $9.99 yesterday. 50 whole cents!

I hear you. I have the same problem, but whenever I posted about it, I usually angered someone who considered it an attack. It's not just here. Slickdeals is also FULL of people who love to brag about their deals when they include a Reward credit or a gift card. Whenever I get a gift card my family likes to tell me they don't need to shop for the best price because I have a gift card and it'll still be cheaper after I use it. I hope after repeatedly explaining it (and opportunity cost) that maybe they finally understand it. I always tell people the rule is you should NEVER factor a gift card or store reward/credit into your buying decision. You look at the GC/reward/credit as being cash and only buy the item if you would buy it without the GC/reward/credit.

+1

Subjective value (how much something is worth to you) is meaningless when you're communicating with others. The fact is, like you say, $20 Best Buy credit has an objective value (how much the market is willing to pay) that is probably in the $15-$18 range. In a forum like this, it's the objective value that matters. Otherwise, people get confused, just as happened here.

Definitely agree with this. I also get frustrated on Slickdeals at the number of threads that involve purchasing a coupon that may or may not work. Of course the cost of the coupon is never factored into the cost of the "deal". Also, if a thread title says soemthing costs $10 shipped, to me that means that is how much I can get it to my front door for immediately. If there is a $5 rebate involved, it isnt $10 shipped. It is actually $15 shipped, with a $5 rebate that may or may not come in 8-10 weeks.

People do look at gift cars kind of funny sometimes. They see it as "free money", which it is (because they didnt pay for it), but it really is just like cash. Having a gift card, isnt going to make a bad deal a good deal.

Thanks to everyone for the enlightenment. I agree with all of it and now see the error of my ways. I apologize for my inadequate math skills, poor communication and fallible comprehension. I will be entering rehab very soon so I can put this all behind me and find some closure.

But for now I'm looking forward to getting KING KONG Blu for only $5.99!

I found $20 on the floor at work. I kept it, didn't tell anyone, and got King Kong 1933 for $5.99, too. Thanks for the deal! :)

Re: Amazon Discounts and Deals Thread #7 (is it #7? I'll pretend it is)

I had $30 to go to BBY to buy King Kong, but lost a $20 bill at work and had to run by the ATM on the way to the store. Not the best deal, but I ended up getting King Kong (33) for a cost of $46.99.

ProfessorEcho 03-10-11 03:15 PM

Re: Amazon Discounts and Deals Thread #7 (is it #7? I'll pretend it is)

Haha. I love it.

I never posted my idea to buy KONG as a "deal," I merely explained why it was a deal FOR ME, a subjective choice in how I was going to spend my credit, something that is posted in these bargain forums all the time. However, I do agree that I used the wrong terminology in saying TOTAL COST when what I meant to say was OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE. Mea culpa.

I also sincerely do agree with most of the responses to my error. The problem with me is that whenever I have a credit that is about to expire, I tend to rush things. However, in this case, DUH!, it's the Best Buy credit that is about to expire, not the Amazon Kindle gift card that I am buying with my BB credit. As such, it really doesn't mean I have to rush to buy KONG and can wait for it to come down at Amazon, if it ever does.

Next time use blocks in your explanations and I will get it faster. ;)

lizard 03-10-11 04:26 PM
