Just received copies of Red 2 and Riddick. Riddick was still factory sealed with the slipcover. Tough to be mad at that.

Yeah, no doubt. That is always a day to celebrate when you order used and get factory sealed.

You are correct. However, they DID give me a hard time on both occasions. They claim that their site clearly indicates that with previously viewed Blus that they only send the movie disc. However, in the item description for both blus that I ordered it CLEARLY indicates that I am ordering a 2 disc set. They did not seem to understand the basis of my complaint.

re: Hastings / gohastings.com discounts and deals on Blu-ray

they have a very different policy of previously viewed and used. That is why used is almost always significantly more money than previously viewed, and sales are only on used. I always viewed "previously viewed" as "buy at your own risk" and have steered away from them.

Here is the info from their website. note the subtle difference where in PPV they say 'WILL NOT contain additional discs" and Used says "MAY not contain additional discs." I take this to mean for Used, they will do their best but they may miss something. I bought a used 2 disc set and only got 1 disc. They were sorry and refunded my money. on a PPV 2 disc set, I think they might have said "sorry - there was no expectation of additional discs in your order."

Just my opinion. I don't work for the company.

Previously Viewed/Previously Played (PV/PP) - are movies/games that were rented in our retail locations. These movies/games have been reconditioned. This product WILL NOT include special features, additional discs, digital content, inserts or other inclusions typically associated with new product. Select downloadable and online content/features may require an additional purchase.

USED - is product we have purchased through our trade in program or from other merchant partners. These products are carefully inspected before purchasing and tested to ensure they have full functionality. This product MAY not include additional discs, digital content, inserts or other inclusions typically associated with new product. All items are reconditioned and packaged for purchase. Select downloadable and online content/features may require an additional purchase. Used products may also include promotional items.

Of course the term "may not contain" gives them the right give us a hard time, imho, for a refund for a missing disc. I am not a lawyer, but "may not" does not equal a guarantee to me. But as I said, for an error with USED they have been great with me, and has been a no-hassle refund. Then again, I have only had 2 errors with them in all my years of dealing with them!!

It is worth noting that I get all my Used Blu-ray 3Ds from Gohastings, and in each case I get all 3 discs - 3d BR, 2d BR and DVD.

re: Hastings / gohastings.com discounts and deals on Blu-ray

I've bought a few more Previously Viewed Blurays from them in the past 2 years. Of course I only did it because the price was so ridiculously low. I think at most it cost me like $2.50 (including shipping). I guess the price was right and I could take a chance on it.

They sent me a prepaid label to send it back for a refund. Only bad part is that I let an Amazon deal go because I bought it from them, so now I'm back on waiting for a deal on it :\

I understand the policy. However, when I search for a product on their website and it clearly states in the item description that the previously used blu ray is for sale at a given price in a 2 disc set, that is deceptive and misleading.

re: Hastings / gohastings.com discounts and deals on Blu-ray

I am done with them. They sent me Band of Brothers BD TWICE after I purchased Band of Brothers/The Pacific Boxset BD TWICE on two separate orders. Waiting on the refunds. They partially refunded me on one order $2.50 short or so, so waiting to see if they refund me that, although not that much money, after having to deal with them and still not getting the product, I want the complete amount I paid refunded.

It's going to take a looooooong time for me to buy from them again if ever.

They're awful with things like that --- where there are mulitple versions of things. Additionally, remakes vs. original. Don't ever order the original from them, you'll most likely be sent the remake. This has happened to me probably 5 times.

Yeah, they're definitely hit or miss, but out of the 2-3 dozen orders I've placed with Hastings over the years, I've only had a few stray problems (wrong version, damaged disc, etc.). In all cases they have refunded my money, sent a replacement and let me keep the incorrect item...and, like a few others, I've even received the occasional sealed item when I purchased a used one. With the lack of used CD/DVD stores locally and the insane shipping prices of Amazon and Half, they're my go-to place for used stuff.

There has to be some sort of secret list they have of customers they treat well. I spent hundreds at GoHastings.com and my experience does not mirror yours. Their customer service seems schizophrenic at best. I have gotten a few new items in place of used orders, but those were the exception.

re: Hastings / gohastings.com discounts and deals on Blu-ray

perhaps it those of us that tend to get 'single' version movies. I haven't really analyzed it, but I think I generally stay away from limited editions and other releases that have a gazillion variations. Never bought them new, and have no interest in getting these used. I have bought one remake (total recall) and they sent me the right version.

Can't otherwise explain why my experience with these company has been A+. I would rather buy from gohastings than any place else. But obviously they are not consistent in their customer service!

I haven't ordered anything from them in awhile. As long as you are patient enough, you can eventually pick up most blu rays new for what you would end up paying for them used

Same here. For the each item I've had a problem with (two or three over dozens of orders) I've probably received five sealed/new items that I paid used prices for.

re: Hastings / gohastings.com discounts and deals on Blu-ray

One thing I would strongly recommend - especially if you order the types of titles that tend to be more "problematic" - is always check the UPC code in the overview when you are viewing an item. Often there are numerous versions of a title with only the one cover shown. You can use the UPC listed to help make sure you are ordering the version you want. One of the times I got a version different than what I wanted I went back and checked and sure enough the UPC for the version I actually got was in fact listed. So while I was somewhat misled by the page for the title, a little more due diligence on my part would have prevented the wrong item from being ordered. This doesn't eliminate all of the troubles described in this thread, but possibly a few.

Ditto. I placed an order last week for 30 used DVDs, and so far six of them have been sealed copies (there's still 8 more that haven't been delivered yet). Generally speaking, if you receive the wrong disc, their listing is screwed up...and no amount of reordering will get you the correct disc. That's when you contact customer service, get a refund, and move on with your life.

Closed-circuit to Deb: There's no need to get bent out of shape with GoHastings, but I've been where you are before and I got upset, too. Just take the refund and make a note not to order it again.

I order a lot from them and am generally happy.
This last batch had to problems but for the price I'm not going to bother doing anything.
Got the Michael Douglas 'The Sentinel' instead of the old horror flick, and got the Broadway Lion King cast recording instead of the Movie Soundtrack.

Amazon had a sale for it at the same time, though, and I bought from GH instead, and I missed the sale. Should have just gone with Amazon. What's amazing to me is that the company doesn't care enough to check and obviously this happens quite a bit so they don't care enough to fix their listings when they do.

Try ordering the original "The Eye" DVD. They will send you the remake three times

re: Hastings / gohastings.com discounts and deals on Blu-ray

I have had this happen a few times - but come on, its a small price to pay for something at a great price - lets admit it, there's a few places on the web where these sale prices are available. I ordered the 2 disc LE of Casino Royale but was sent the single disc version even though their packing slip showed the correct UPC. So my guess is its also a lot of User error occurring with pickers not paying attention. Mistakes happen everywhere and they are nice to enough to ask you to either keep it and have them returned with a prepaid envelope. Just temper your expectations accordingly based on your experience or experience of others on this forum.

They are "nice enough" to send you a prepaid label when they mess up and send you the wrong item? How nice of them

I have never believed low prices are an excuse for sub-par service. This is obviously something that happens quite often and they have not implemented a system to make it stop happening which just tells me they don't care about inconveniencing people. For example in my case I'm now the item and it's not on sale on Amazon anymore so I have to wait weeks or months for it to go on sale again. What if it was for somebody's birthday?

You win some, you lose some. If you are inclined to ordering something used from GH for someone's birthday, I would ask you to consider changing shopping habits - you might end up sending the adult comedy 'Buns of Navarone' by ordering 'Guns of Navarone'. Anyways, people have different levels of tolerance levels

Here's the thing, though, you shouldn't have to go into a merchant thinking you win some, you lose some. Wonder what GH would think about a disclaimer on the website, "We'll try our best to get you the right product, but no promises!" Now I know how they work, but you only get to that point by having had one experience. It's not too much to expect to buy something online and get it.
