Re: Barnes & Noble Criterion Sale
I'm wondering if Criterion has delayed or cancelled the Antichrist release? I don't know why B&N would be unable to secure copies of a title that hasn't even been released yet...

Re: Barnes & Noble Criterion Sale
In for M, Charade, Darjeeling Limited ($13 plus tax), and Seven Samurai ($17.50 plus tax). I've only ever seen Darjeeling. I'm pretty satisfied with being able to use this 2 month membership for this sale. My cashier also tried saying I wasn't over $20, but I told her about the "selling price" and she was fine.

Re: Barnes & Noble Criterion Sale
Picked these up today:
- The Darjeeling Limited* - The Thin Red Line* - Breathless* - Paths Of Glory* - Charade* - Seven Samurai^ - The Leopard^ (* = $13.78 after tax, ^ = $18.55 after tax) Probably going to sell my DVD copies of "Seven Samurai," "Repulsion," and "Bottle Rocket" and upgrade the other two on that list at some point, but I'll have to see how much I can get. |
Re: Barnes & Noble Criterion Sale
Received my first order, just placed two more orders for: Seven Samurai, Bottle Rocket, Charade, The Red Shoes, Thin Red Line, and Black Narcissus all on blu and Le Samourai on DVD.
7 more blu-rays and 1 more DVD should do it for me (maybe). |

As for House, I want to see it (badly) but it would be a blind buy and I'm trying to pair down on those so I'm probably not going to get it during this sale.

Yeah, I'd recommend renting House first, it's certainly not Kurosawa. I'm actually quite surprised how many people are buying this one.

Re: Barnes & Noble Criterion Sale
Yeah, speaking of House: I watched it when it came out last month. I'm not sure if I liked it, but the oddness of it caught me by surprise (more like knocked me upside the head). $14 was worth a repeat viewing on blu-ray. I still debated a little though because it's slim on extras.

Re: Barnes & Noble Criterion Sale
If you've got the money to experiment that's fine but the idea that you're investing in something of real value is a logical flaw that perpetuates irrational impulse purchases (I suspect you are being manipulated by Barnes & Noble agents). Don't get me wrong, I do it too but I see the wall I'm crashing into.

well its $28.08 used on Amazon, as everyone else has stated, blind buying is never more safe then during this sale.

Re: Barnes & Noble Criterion Sale
Just my luck, I get the guy who reads and interprets every single last bit of the $5 off coupon. Because I signed up for the free 2 month membership only a few days ago, he said I couldn't use those coupons. He was a super nice guy, but that sucked. I still picked up Seven Samurai on blu because it was a good deal. But that extra $5 would have been nice. This was at the Fullerton, CA store.

Re: Barnes & Noble Criterion Sale
Don't say that. CC delaying anything scares me. Why would they do that?
|
Re: Barnes & Noble Criterion Sale
Oh wait, I'm an idiot. There are two coupons up, one for memberships before the end of October, one for after. Looks like I gotta make a return trip to the store. Darn it.

Imagine how diluted the secondary market will be when everyone expunges their viewed once copies of House. You guys enjoy the sale; me, I'll wait for the resales to pick these up cheap. Honestly I frequently buy used higher tier Criterions for less than $15 and never ever more. I dropped by my local store and grabbed Seven Samurai, Charade, Thin Red Line, and The Magician. All were $13 a piece except Seven Samurai, which rang up around $18. Might go back for more before its over. |
Re: Barnes & Noble Criterion Sale
Got 3 blus yesterday at 1 store and 8 today at another. Pretty much bought every title I was even remotely interested in (that I didn't get last sale). Was able to use the $5 coupon for each of the 11.

I'm calling BS. The market isn't saturated with blind buys after this sale, and the ones that are aren't being sold at $10 a pop. So unless you know something that none of us here do, $13 a title is the best you'll see.
Like I said, I have a lot of fun rushing into this sale too and spent over $400 last go round. ...but it's fantasy to think you control the market and not visa versa; don't forget who the consumer is. [...maybe I'm just pissed my old copy of Naked Kiss is almost worthless now] |

[...maybe I'm just pissed my old copy of Naked Kiss is almost worthless now] I get your point. Still, $13, if beat, is by a dollar or two and that stuff is used. I'll bite and take a two dollar hit for something brand new that I don't have to pick up from a college kid's apartment complex. :) |

Re: Barnes & Noble Criterion Sale
I've noticed that the market for used Criterions has softened dramatically since these B&N 50% off sales began. After the first sale, I was able to unload any unwanted titles within a few days on half.com with a very nice return.
Since then, the "Criterion Cult", (a small group anyway), has gotten wise to the regularity of this sale, and it's not so easy to sell your used CCs at a profit or break-even anymore. |
Re: Barnes & Noble Criterion Sale
Yeah, what's up with Army of Shadows SD selling at $13ish?
First purchase of the sale, all blu: Charade House Thin Red Line Excited to head back from Seven Samurai, Breathless, Paths of Glory. |

Re: Barnes & Noble Criterion Sale
YMMV obviously, but the best deal if you're buying multiple titles is likely this:
3 titles at $18 each after membership, $54 minus $5 transaction coupon, $49 minus the two different $5 off one title coupons, $39 minus the 10% coupon, ~$37 Again very YMMV depending on your cashier and the order they scan the 4 different coupons. If they don't scan the transaction coupon first (or 2nd after the 10%) it won't work, but you could always buy another title or book or magazine or cheap CD with that $5 coupon to get it up to $50 again. |
