Gone With The Wind Set Without the Junk ?

Has it been confirmed that Target or another store will have a Gone With The Wind multi disc set without the junk like the Wizard of Oz had ?

Thanks

Supposedly Target will have one similar to their Oz set. Unknown about Wal-Mart, but most people seem to be assuming they will have a single-disc version like their Oz release.

More importantly, I want confirmation that they'll have GOONIES on the same day!

Why not wait until next week when Targets ad leaks?

There was talk, but I'm not sure if it was confirmed. There never was a press release or anything (that I know of), but there wasn't one for Gremlins when it came out at Target on the same release day as Wizard of Oz. I don't remember how the talk of Goonies got started, but do remember it being said that Target will get an exclusive release of it when Gone with the Wind comes out.

Well, just in case Target doesn't come through this time, it looks like WB's UK Blu-ray will be just a film-only release (and, assumedly like their other releases, region-free):

Only a small percentage of Region B releases are region-free (not "locked").

The UK set says three discs on the cover, but Amazon UKs listing says 2. However, there are many extras shown in the listing, so presumably it's not just the film itself. Warner's Blu rays are region free. It's 15 GPB at Amazon UK.

Almost all of WB's Blu-rays are region-free.

Re: Gone With The Wind Set Without the Junk ?

after currency conversion and the international shipping charge would the net cost of the UK issue still seem like that much of a bargain compared to the current sale price on Amazon?

I can certainly understand people not needing the ephemeral paper products packaged into the US BD sets, and I wish the package had been designed from a more dvd shelf friendly standpoint (the Mickey Rooney Judy Garland set from a couple years back was ideal from this perspective)- but considering I paid more for the bare bones 50th anniversary LD set 20 years ago (in 1990 dollars to boot) than I will for this stacked set, I don't mind the extra 'junk' this time.

OTOH hand I was very happy to get WoO from Wal-mart, as the single disc had absolutely everything I wanted from the larger set and nothing I didn't.

BTW- someone on AVS posted a small jpg of the supposed Target exclusive edition (which uses the same photoshopped art as the movie only dvd reissue of the Ultra Res 2004 edition). According to them it will have an MSRP of $28.99.

The extras may be PAL...or maybe not. Always seems to be a roll of the dice. Of course, everyone doesn't care about extras.

I wish he had said whether or not the extras are in PAL or NTSC.

Target will have a one disc set for $34.99. No sale for me. I will keep my amazon.co.uk preorder.

I seriously doubt that the Target edition at $34.99 is a 1-disc set. There's nothing to indicate that in the ad. But either way, they have it advertised on Black Friday for $12.99, which is a good price for 1-disc or 3-disc, in my opinion.

I answered this in the other thread, but just to reiterate if anyone misses seeing it in there:
A Target employee has confirmed that it is only a 1 disc release, and he took pictures of it as proof that you can see here:

I wasn't able to see the pictures without registering as a member.

Re: Gone With The Wind Set Without the Junk ?

I saw the Gone With The Wind cover on the Target Black Friday ad and it is the same as the 2 disc standard edition.

Has anyone heard if Walmart will have its own edition of GWTW?

The blu-ray of Goodfellas will be $8.99 but a new edition is being released soon for those who hate double dipping.

Not yet, but we are all waiting with baited breath for some info to leak....based on their past handling of Warner BDs that were mainly released in deluxe sets (Woodstock and Oz), I seriously doubt they will be carrying the big UCE box....GWTW seems like too big of a catalog title for them not carry SOME version of it though....now that we know Target has a single disc release, let's all keep out fingers crossed that Walmart gets a version that mirrors the UK release (both BDs with the classic-style cover art).....

Which takes one second to do.

Anyway, I'm a member there and saw the pictures. Interesting cover.

So you're going to doubt it exists because you're too lazy to register?

I hope Walmart comes out with a nice cheap versions sans all that extra crap.

I never said anything about doubting it exists. I was just pointing out that anyone who isn't a member and doesn't want to join yet another site (whether it being because "I'm too lazy" as you say or for any other reason) can't see them. I wasn't sure the poster was aware of it.
