Yeah, seems like AMZ is sometimes adding competitor's shipping costs to their "matching"... but for me a 10mile round trip to BB is about $1.50 in gas (and time) so it isn't a deal breaker. I will be over that direction today anyways though, so I'll stop in store.

Yeah it's really silly to charge a little more to match the difference with shipping & taxes. I'd rather get it right away than wait. It's a shame they didn't match them at $14.99....

Darn that Amazon for not matching every loss leader and actually trying to make a profit. Bastards!

I have a odder way of doing my math on there stuff. It comes down to tax and picking up the items. The tax plus $3 (I do not add a standing in line for a hour fee) must out weght the cost of the item at Target or Best Buy (Till this day I have yet to buy a Blu-Ray at Wal-mart).

Last night I bought

Million Dollar Baby
Space Cowboys

Total cost was $29.48-free shipping-$10=19.48

Both at Best buy was over $30 each.

On the other hand Hung'em high & Patton Blu/DVD at Costco was $19(with Tax).

That's fine, you can buy it there and wait while I buy it right now for a little cheaper.

Best Buy is a stone throw away from me on most days. No problem going in there and being able to pick out my copy (that may have a slip cover) and saving a $1 or so. I'd rather give my money to Amazon, but they don't want to price match.

That's fine. Freedom of choice and all. Just seems a bit much to whine about it...

Cool, Torchur has no unwatched discs. Nothing sitting on that shelf unopened while the price dropped or it was re-released. If that were me, I could understand the need to have something ASAP.

And he has set no dollar value to his time. And doesn't require any gas to get out and go shopping. So unlike other people who see a slightly higher price at Amazon as being equivalent, to him it's a loss. Must be nice.

However, I would argue that such a lifestyle is atypical and therefore shouldn't be put forth as a reason for Amazon to drop its prices. Contrary to Gizmo's belief, that wouldn't be good business practice, and wouldn't be logical (not usually concerns in threads like this, though).

I don't mind waiting a year or more for just about anything since I have so much unwatched stuff, and I'll gladly pay a couple dollars extra for the convenience of a couple clicks of the mouse while I'm at home watching one of the discs I already have.

Amazon has always price matched to the exact penny before. If they are now choosing not to, I simply won't use them for those items they feel should be priced $1.50+. That's a lost sale from me, and potentially far more if I get used to going back to the store and buying my stuff (and a low price - even with tax it's still a wee bit cheaper). I don't really give a shit where I get my items nor do I care about stopping off at Best Buy which I pass several times a week to pick it up myself. Unlike some, I'm not burdened with kids so I can do what I want when I want.

The killer will be if Amazon is forced to charge tax in Cali even if they don't have a presence. That would kill me ever ordering from them again.

Keep in mind not everyone gets free shipping (they have to order $25 or more), and some people have to pay taxes. So those points may apply to you (and me) but not everyone. If Amazon wants to charge more than the item + tax at my local retailer, they won't be getting my business.

What it seems that Amazon has been doing is price-matching plus $1.50 or so to start the week, and then by mid-week, they almost always drop the price to the same price that retail stores have it for.

You completely missed the point of my post. I think others have explained it.

I don't get why I should be concerned for their bottom line. If they don't sell it cheap or fail to PM BB like I want, I might take my business elsewhere. I just don't get why I should be concerned with Amazon making a profit. They are a smart co. -- they can take of themselves.

This. Last week, I waited for them to PM Best Buy on Armageddon. I gave in and purchased it from Best Buy on Monday. Then, right on schedule, Amazon matched that price and the price on Tombstone PLUS an additional $10 off. Needless to say, I took full advantage of that, grabbed them both for $15.98, and returned the first copy of Armageddon to Best Buy. Lesson learned.

I'm holding out on Moon until I see what Amazon is going to do later on in the week.

Of course they can. No one is saying to buy anything anywhere if it can be found cheaper elsewhere. I was simply attacking the whining. No store is going to be all things to all people, or be able to match every price, it would go out of business.

I like this thread better when people just post deals.

I want Moon too, and I'll wait a few more days. If Amazon does not drop the price, I'll pick it up at Best Buy. Or not. It'll be $15 - or less - eventually. I've gone a 1000 movies....I can wait.

My problem is Amazon has been matching Best Buy prices for years now, and when they suddenly decide to add a $1.50+ surcharge to it, it makes me rethink them. I guess some people don't realize that sometimes stores don't have deals - studios offer them rebates on titles. The exact same rebate could have been offered to Amazon and instead of doing it at $14.99 they are trying to get more money for it. They may not even be matching Best Buy, simply selling an item for a higher price. Studios do rebates all the time, especially on movies several months old that are stale.
