Re: $10 off Bluray Race To Witch Mountain
[QUOTE=sotra;9621526]Anyone know the FYE B&M price? If it is the same as fye.com then it will be $12.99/$9.99 (non-member/member) after coupon and $7 MIR.
$19.99 Non-Member, 17.99 Member, $14.99 Member after MIR.
I have come to find out that the website rebates and the B&M rebates do not always match up. $10.99 member at the website and $12.99 - $14.99 member in store. Makes no sense to me. And to get the rebate from the website you have to cut the UPC from the DVD case! Also, sometime the website will have a rebate but the store does not. Example: "Miss March" has no rebate in store but the website is $10.99 member, $12.99 non-member.
Does FYE accept coupons??? I called one of the stores in my area and they could not tell me.

FYE accepted the RTWM coupon. Plus I got the $5.00 rebate as well. Stopped a WalMart first but they wanted full price for a Disney new release! I was shocked. $19.98 in store yet website is only $14.98.

I picked my copy up at Wal-Mart for $6.99 after coupon and PM. The cashier said it was on sale at Fry's (grocery store in AZ also known as Krogers in other parts of the US) for $16.99. Great deal! When I got home I looked at the Fry's ad...It was the DVD version and not Blu-Ray. I guess I got lucky.

The cashier tried telling me that as well, and wasn't willing to try doing it. I asked for the manager, and they let me do it after reading the fine print on the coupon, which clearly says one coupon per "specified item purchased."

No UPC codes needed for fye.com rebates. Done several dozens over the years and only sent in the order confirmation email plus the packing slip for my rebates. Check current rebate pdf documents on their website.

The following illustrates why I rarely bother calling stores:
Me: (after several minutes of hold/transfers/phone trees) Do you have any blu-ray copies of Race to Witch Mountain?
Store Employee: Only the DVD has been released, the blu-rays are always released several weeks later.
Me: No, it is out and another store tells me the computer shows two copies at your store.
Store Employee: Oh. (Pause) Let me look then. (Long wait, comes back to phone) Here it is, the box says "DVD special edition also available on blu-ray".
Me: Thank you, but that is the DVD, the blu-ray will be in a blu-ray case in your new release blu-ray stand.
Store Employee: What's a blu-ray?
The above is slightly altered combination of conversations I had with two different stores. Basically, neither employee wanted to do anything, but initially took the path of least resistance and lied to me to get me off the phone as quickly as possible. I ended up driving to one of the stores, found the two copies, and saw the same employee I talked to sitting on the counter talking to friends and ignoring customers.

Had no problems at all at my TRU store - the cashier knew about the coupon already - in fact she said she
just did the same deal like a half-hour before for another customer - so there was no need to ask the manager
or another cashier if the coupons was allowed.
TRU even had a deal where you got $5 off another Disney DVD if you bought Race To Witch Mountain on either
DVD or Blue-Ray. Including in the listing was both the Escape To Witch Mountain DVD and the Return From Witch
Mountain DVD. Those were priced at $14.99 so it would come to $9.99 each. Luckly they had one of each movie
left so I was able to take advantage. So since I used two of those "$10 off a Blu-Ray purchase of Race To Witch
Mountain" coupons (because I bought two Blu-Rays) you can say I got those two DVDs - Escape To/Return From
Witch Mountain - for free - before the tax of course.
My total on the whole deal was $37.07 - with a savings of $47.48 - pretty good deal. Hopefully there is similar type
of deal for the Hanna Montana movie that is coming out next week.

These calls were TRU, but yeah, it is the usual experience with most stores.
And I'm super polite, friendly, and helpful on the phone. I hate to think how these employees treat customers that are rude or really need the help.
I see this all the time in all sorts of companies. People are lazy and like to take the path of least resistance. They'll claim ignorance, or flat out lie before they get out of their chair and actually do anything to help a customer. Obviously, they are many exceptions and great employees everywhere, but they are getting rarer.

People in general are lazy and simply don’t give a shit.
I would never waste my time or energy calling a retail store to ask anyone anything. It’s like pulling teeth on the rare instances I bother to ask anyone if I am actually in a retail store.
I actually got in on this deal at Toys R Us and had a pleasant experience. They had Blu-rays scattered in different locations and had about given up. I asked a girl working there and she took me right to them. I made sure I thanked her more than once for help since she was also the one that rang up my purchase and scanned my two coupons.

Honestly I have zero expectations out of any employee making minimum wage in a retail establishment of any kind these days.

I think it is a sad state of affairs that the above example is rare, and not a continual part of one's day.
I had pride in my job when I was making minumum wage cleaning toilets, and anyone living in a free country with a job should be damn happy to have it and bend over backwards to serve their customers. [/rant]

I had a bad experience with TRU. I went to the store and couldn't find any blu-ray but just the DVD. I asked the lady who was working there if they have more of the blu-ray movie. She said the blu-ray was not out yet. I said it was out the same day as the DVD. Then she paused a few second, then said it was not out to this store yet. What an idiot!

I agree. When I bought my BD's at TRU, the cashier actually asked me if I realized I was buying a Blu-Ray. I told her yes, but asked if she gets many confused people about that. She said that at least 75% of the people that "attempt" to buy a blu-ray didn't have blu-ray players. She tries to stop them before they make the mistake. So there's at least ONE smart cashier out there...

I have no problem with store employees not knowing what a blu-ray is, I don't even care if they don't know what a movie is. My problem is that they would rather lie to the customer than make any effort to help them.

Had to be WalMart! I've had the same experience many times w/them!
