It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like The 10th Annual Holiday Challenge (11/24 - 1/1)

The time has come... once again... for...

2013: Cardsfan111 (289)
2012 Winner: Trevor (277)
2011 Winner: dfmaverick (276)
2010 Winner: HyperWeather (182)
2009 Winner: Trevor (287)
2008 Winner: Dimension X (250)
2007 Winner: Trevor (509)
2006 Winner: RobCA (128)
2005 Winner: FantasticVSDoom (35)

OFFICIAL RULES

-Movies, TV shows/specials, Short Films & Cartoons Count

-The movie or TV show DOES NOT need to be holiday oriented. It could simply take place during the holiday season (i.e. Batman Returns, Gremlins, Die Hard, etc.)

-Although the movie doesn't have to take place during the holiday season, a MAJORITY of the film HAS to take place during the holiday season. No movies with just one scene during the holiday season. If you're not sure, ASK!

-Any holiday from Thanksgiving through New Years Day may count

-A film can only be viewed once, UNLESS you watch it and then watched it again with a commentary

-There is no global goal, shoot for a personal goal. Whatever you want your goal to be go for it. For returning participants maybe your goal should be to beat a previous year's goal.

-Again, like past years there will be a THREE Wild Card option to include movies or TV shows you might watch during the holiday season that is not holiday oriented. My family used to watch Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory every Christmas. So anything is allowed, up to 3.

-Specials such as the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, New Years Rockin' Eve, etc. can count, but you MUST watch the entire special in order to count it.

-PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE number your lists! If you do not number your list it will not count towards the challenge

-It doesn't matter how you see the film, VHS, DVD, Blu-Ray, HD-DVD, Laserdisc, Theatrical release, it can be counted. Just have fun.

-The challenge will begin at dusk on Sunday November 23, 2014 and will end at dawn on Friday January 2, 2015

Re: It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like The 10th Annual Holiday Challenge (11/24 - 1/1)

I have stated this year that if you do not number your list it will not eligible for entry. The reason being is because this past years I had to count out someone's list and it was over 100 entries. It took me quite a while to do that, fortunately it was the only one. Not to mention he had some weird system on how he listed his entries. Every year I have to count out someone's list or multiple lists, so this year if you don't number it then it won't count. Sorry.

Fortunately I don't have a huge backlog of holiday stuff when this one rolls around - I believe there are 2 or 3 unopened holiday titles in my stacks. I can pretty much watch whatever suits my fancy!

I do this too...actually, I still have 2 or 3 on mine that I didn't end up watching last year, so I'm ahead of the game!

Looking forward to this as well. It's one of my favorite challenges (along with Animation and Sci-fi)!

I usually post it around October 7th, but the last couple of years I've been waiting a bit longer, mainly because I forget!

Can anyone confirm whether either of these movies would qualify for the challenge:

Go
Assault on Precinct 13

I recorded them both off HBO back in June and when I started them they seemed like they might qualify so I held off, but I didn't want to look up too many details for fear of spoilers.

I have no fear of spoilers!

It looks like both would qualify. The synopsis on imdb of Go begins "It is Christmas Eve..." and the summary of Assault on Precinct 13 indicates it takes place on NYE.

That's good enough for me.

It's a pity that so many holiday specials from the 60s and 70s never made it to home video. Here's one I remember from my childhood that never was re-broadcast.

Interesting you say that, I remember watching The Bear Who Slept Through Christmas ALL THE TIME when I was a kid and as far as I know it's never made its way to video. It is on Netflix and I always seem to forget to watch it, but I'm making it a mission to watch it this year!

Bear Who Slept Through Christmas is great. I've been watching it every year for the last few challenges.

Just for clarification, the remake (2005) of ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13 is set on New Year's Eve. The original (1976) is not.

I remembered that Addams Family Values has a big Thanksgiving bit, but had no memory that The Addams Family also begins at Christmas with music and carol singers...

If anyone has the series set of Dogfights, one episode deals with a battle that took place on New Years Day, so there's another non holiday episode that takes place during the holiday season. I forget the name, but it is on season 2.

Re: It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like The 10th Annual Holiday Challenge (11/24 - 1/1)

I've made ten more compilations of Christmas episodes since last year and was really happy to find this on youtube after searching the last few years. Not a great episode, but still one that was on my quest...

<iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/ZSiwxHBB7Zo?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Top three still trying to find-

Harper Valley - Harper Valley Christmas
The Fall Guy - Escape Claus
Just The Ten of Us - A Christmas Story

But that wouldn't count since it's only the beginning of the movie.

Also, let's remember that Frozen is not a Christmas movie. If memory serves that movie takes place in the summer, so yeah...
