Ever make a wasted DLC purchase?
So MWB made a recent post in the Borderlands thread that got me thinking.
Have you ever bought DLC that you never got to? A binary pile of shame of sorts? I'm not talking about buyers remorse (I personally wish I hadn't bought N+ or Lumines), but just like MWB said, you bought something in hopes of getting to it eventually, but there it sits on your hard drive just mocking you.
For me (the ones I remember at least):
Kameo
Power Pack - One of the first games to have DLC expansions in a world of horse armors. I LOVED Kameo and played the shit out of it. IIRC, the DLC was mostly a leaderboard/high score + time trial thing. It also added co-op and a dozen new achievements, each worth.... 0pts. Unfortunately it came out a year after the game. I thought I could go back to it, but I just couldn't.
Down the tube:
400
Tomb Raider: Underworld
Beneath the Ashes - I bought both expansions and went through Lara's Shadow, but I just can't seem to pull this one off the digital pile. It can't be more than a couple hours worth of play.
Down the tube:
800 (? maybe on sale)
Guitar Hero 5
Band Hero Export - My time spent playing music games comes and goes, but when it comes time to play I just can't put this back in even though I have 85 new & unplayed tracks to dive into. I can't help but just stick with Rock Band.
Down the tube: @ $10
Never played Borderlands at all, but I did buy the Zombie Island DLC when it was on sale a few months ago in anticipation of playing it eventually. Wasted purchase, I guess, but how do you know, right?

I bought the 800 point DLC Heroes and Villains pack to MUA very late into my playthrough. Played with the new characters very little as I was better leveled up with others. That seemed like a waste, I guess.
I also bought Dr Zed's Zombie Island on sale but never played it yet.

I've been really good about it so far. I do have some duped Rock Band tracks that I bought and then ultimately repeated when I exported Track Pack 2 for $0.99.
Garbage - Why Do You Love Me?
Nine Inch Nails - The Perfect Drug
Smashing Pumpkins - Zero
Weezer - El Scorcho
At $2/pop, that's $8. Maybe a little less for the NIN track since it was part of a 3-pack discounted by $0.50. So $7.83 down the tube.

Does it count when your brother in law and his 4 year old kid screw around on your xbox, not know how to turn things on and then download Halo3 map packs, premium themes and SD movies (and start to watch, then stop helping it time out)? And I have never played Halo 3, nor intend to.
If so, then yes.

Re: Ever make a wasted DLC purchase?
I think the only wasted DLC I've purchased has been Rock Band related. Either songs that I've bought in the middle of a RB party that we played once and haven't played since (Lady Gaga), or songs that I bought on my own that I have yet to play (I'm sure there's numerous songs that fit into this category).

The closest thing I can think of is when I bought that Spinal Tap track pack for Rock Band, only to discover that all the songs were poorly performed re-recordings. That was not just a waste of my time, but of Spinal Tap's as well.

Not DLC, but a Live Arcade game. And it was my wife's fault. Happy Tree Friends. She downloaded the demo, then when she exited, it asked if she wanted to buy the full version. She pressed the wrong button (TWICE!!) and purchased it. I still make her feel bad about it all the time.

Halo. I bought the downloadable game but I have never played it. I've played the original of course.
One of the DLCs for GTA IV, I think it was on sale.
Lumines 2 ?, just played once or twice and that's it.

GTA IV: Lost and the Damned. Bought it on sale but can't remember the price paid (maybe 1200). I haven't played it yet. Now, if you catch a sale, you can pick up the retail pack with both DLC's for less than the price you'd have to pay to buy both digitally via Live.

My wife insisted on downloading the original Super Mario Brothers and has played it exactly once. However, whenever someone mentions the virtual console, she loves, loves, loves to talk about how we have the original Super Mario Brothers. It's kinda cute.

I've yet to play any of the DLC for Mass Effect 2 and bought it sight unseen. With my backlog of shame, I doubt ME2 will ever see the light of day on my 360. I also have a buttload of songs for RB2, Guitar Hero and DJ Hero that I bought impulsively.
I'd label anything I bought for my avatar as a waste as well.

It's SO stupid that you can't password protect purchases on the Marketplace. I've got a shit-ton of points and know that it's only a matter of time before my trouble-making four year old exits Lego Star Wars, wanders to the Marketplace tab and starts making unnecessary purchases like a drunk Gator Deb.
I like the way apple does it. I will hand my touch to my kids to play for a little while. When they are done, I will look at the history in the multitasking window and see that they opened many, many games there is no way they could have played successfully. I can only imagine how much they would cost me if they could complete in-app purchases.

Not really. I've only purchased Lost Planet 1 and 2 Map Packs as far as Gaming DLC and I play the shit out of that game.
The only complaint there is sometimes you can't play all the maps because others online haven't purchased them.

When the PSN had flOw free for a day, I got that and bought the expansion, assuming it would work with the free game.
No dice. I would have to buy the game in the regular manner to use it, but then I'd be spending more than what the bundle would cost.

Most of the time, I buy the add-on content when I want to keep the joy going in a game I'm loving. However, I guess you could consider my glitchy Brotherhood of Steel purchase for the PS3 a waste -- especially since I've bought the Fallout 3 GOTY for the 360.

I don't think I've bought any DLC, but the following is close I guess. Bought the Borderlands add-on DLC disc (as part of a bundle with Borderlands). Love the game, but at the speed I go through my games pile the DLC will be free by the time I get to it.
