Re: Rock Band: The Official Thread
As long as the patch is coming, that is fine with me....just really hope they add the ability to hide songs (Visions, some of the HMX 20, etc...). That option combined with the stars and it is a near perfect platform.

Re: Rock Band: The Official Thread
Can I express a very old and probably a very unpopular opinion here? I absolutely HATE the career mode in this game. Having to play four and five song mystery sets to unlock new content just stinks. It would be one thing if it were just songs from the base game, but it digs through the DLC and finds whatever it is looking for, no matter how long or hard it is. It's frustrating as hell to spend 15-20 minutes playing mystery songs and then get screwed by the final song and have to start all over. For such a great game with such a huge mostly awesome library, it's disappointing that the main part of the game is such a drag. I know most just play Quick-play and I do as well. It's not at all realistic that a band would take the stage not knowing what they were about to play, so why do it in the game, let alone make it the main mode of gameplay? With such a huge library of songs, wouldn't it make more sense to let the artists pick and choose their setlists more often? It's something I hope they address by RB3.
You can also stop in the middle of a set, save your place and then come back a day later in the middle of that set. It's good for us adults that might have something come up in the middle of a 20 minute set and not have to abandon (and lose fans) what we accomplish during the first fifteen minutes.
It pisses me off that the wife and kid may come home and I need to put the game up but it still makes me lose what progress I did in a 6 song set.
The one thing RB does right is it incorporates your DLC into the sets by either mystery tracks (which they need to work on recognizing if it has chosen a certain track for you 12 times and ignored the other 100 songs in your DLC) and by making set lists. But the world tour is just too damn long.
I know you RB groupies just say skip the world tour, but they shouldn't make the core part of the game so irritating. I finally gave up on it when I get to the final 8 or so cities and found they were putting Visions in every other set list. Fuck them.
RB is great on DLC but their world tour/campaign eats my asshole.

I guess I don't get how RB's World Tour mode is the "core part of the game" whereas GH's glorified, linear Quickplay (aka Career) gets a pass. The modes are not comparable in the slightest.

I know. You aren't supposed to bash or criticize RB on this forum. Just GH. I tend to go against the grain from time to time.
I never gave GH a pass. I gave the good things that GH does that RB doesn't do. Since you rarely hear anyone speak of RB stubbing it's toe in this forum, I tend to call it like I see it, rules be damned!

RB has Quickplay.
GH doesn't have a mode that compares to RB's World Tour, so I don't know why you're trying.
RB isn't infallible, but this argument is like saying that Super Mario Bros 3 is horseshit because Zelda has a save function so you can play it in smaller stints.

Re: Rock Band: The Official Thread
I completely agree with this and have stated it many times...the RB tour is WAY TOO LONG and WAY TOO REPETITIVE. That's the one thing GH:WT beats RB2 on. You play the songs and you get out. But most importantly in GH:WT, if you fail a song on Expert, you can move the difficulty down to Hard and still finish the set whether that was the first song or the fifth song. Now that's awesome.
You can do this on the Challenges, AFAIK.

This works in Challenges as well. Also, once you are into the 'millions of fans' stratosphere, losing 4k for quitting isn't such a big deal.

There is little repetition in Challenges compared to the World Tour mode.

As far as Challenges go, I have never really paid any attention to them. What's the deal? Just play a variety of songs to post and compare scores?

Check out the Tour Challenges section under World Tour. It is not "Battle of the Bands" that you're thinking of.
You'd think that after a year, a vehement disgust for the WT mode, and all the previous mentions of Challenges and DLC-extensibility, you would have at least looked at the other options in the game

Re: Rock Band: The Official Thread
That was BotB.
Tour Challenges are completely local and independent (unless you want to invite others) and based solely on the content you have. There are guitar, bass, drum, vocal, and band paths. As well as "Infinite", "Decade", "Genre", "Artist", "Ablum", "DLC packs", etc challenges.

Yep, Tour Challenges are the way to go if you don't like career mode. They're just as meaty as career mode, but they do all the things you want them to do (ie save midway through, etc).

And playing the challenges is the quickest way to unlock everything. You never have to play the Tour if you don't want to.

Well dammit. I feel like a douche (I know, I know...not the first time, not the last...).
I will definitely check that out since the WT irritates me so. I guess I tried the BOTB thing and got it confused with the Challenges. I thought they were the same thing.
"Ugh!" and "Cool!" and the same time.

Re: Rock Band: The Official Thread
Speaking of RBN, saw an article on Destructoid (I think) this morning that any of the 4 parts are optional. A song only requires one part to be created. There was a picture of a song that only had guitar and bass; drums and vocals said "No Part".
