Season 6 is the last one, right? When we last saw this character, they were in an interesting, and seemingly high profile, position. I wonder how they'll be able to explain the absence without it feeling forced.

Easy money: she's on the island and season 5 won't be. Or the time spent on the island won't really deal with anyone that would interact with Claire and/or Christian.

So is this person not going to be in season 5 because they decided not to, or because it's what the writers want?

Probably a little of both, now they won't be a series regular pulling a weekly pay check for only being in one or two episodes.

I thought that was a given at the end of last year. I didn't know it was supposed to be a secret.

I think that the original thing that came out was that
Spoiler:
Claire would be put on "recurring" status for season five and have a diminished role in it (like maybe only a couple of scenes spread across the season [wait-- isn't that pretty much what her role has always been?]).

This seems to imply that she won't be appearing at all until season six.

I think this was revealed in one of the promo pieces...maybe at Comic Con this year? It was something outside the regular show.

It was a given that she'd be gone for season 5 and BACK for season 6? How so?

I myself thought she was dead (which maybe she is), but I had no way to know she'd be off the show an entire season before her return.

Yeah, agreed, that's what I was expecting. Well, sort of because I didn't think she'd be back at all, but that's interesting, I wonder how they'll work her in although I already have my theories.

He's called himself about 100 different names.

Yea, it was indeed revealed at Comic-Con. The video made it online, but got taken down on you tube. I managed to see it somewhere else, but can't recall where.

Re-watched Exodus (S1 finale) on Sci-Fi the other night. Conversation Locke & Jack had:

Locke: "We were brought here for a purpose, for a reason - all of us. Each one of us was brought here for a reason."

Jack: "Brought here. And who brought us here John?"

Locke: "The island. The island brought us here. This is no ordinary place, you've seen that, I know you have. The island chose you too Jack. It's destiny."
...
Jack: "I don't believe in destiny."

Locke: "Yes you do. You just don't know it yet."

Nice to know they had an idea of what was going to happen way back then.

Agreed. A lot of people didn't like it because of how it ended (Walt being taken, Locke & Jack just looking down the hole), but it definitely set things in motion for the rest of the series more than a lot of finales/premieres, IMO.

Can't wait to see Jack and Ben carrying around Locke's dead body.
