I have no clue what made me think of this, but there we have it. I was trying to think of the one film that most, not all because I know that's not possible, could agree on really enjoying. I tried to think of a flick that had certain elements that might appeal to a wide range of people. As much as I'd like to say something like Eternal Sunshine, I know that wouldn't even be close. Heck, I know people who despise that movie. I'm pretty sure I know people here that hate the movie.

I'll start off with my pick, Groundhog Day. It has a fine mixture of comedy, touching subplots, lessons being learned for both the lead character and viewer, and it has an original and different concept going for it.

I know someone who thinks that it's one of the worst films ever, but overall I've almost never met someone who didn't at least enjoy it, even if they didn't think it was the greatest thing ever.

Raiders of the Lost Ark, Rear Window, The Great Escape, Jaws. For a newer film I'd pick High Fidelity or the Shawshank Redemption.

Interestingly, I just saw Groundhog Day for the first time this year and loved the hell out of it. And that's the problem. Apparently nobody within my vicinity (Family,friends,etc) had never seen it to recommend it. Although it did come out at a time before "Word of mouth-movies" were in effect.

As for the subject header, Ummm. I'm gonna have to go for Tombstone. Again, "Family,friends,etc" just seem to love this movie. Even if they aren't fans of the western genre. A simple good vs evil fairytale--that happens to be a true story.

Yeah, Shawshank Redemption is a good choice.

Braveheart, Heat, Saving Private Ryan and Fargo are ones that everyone I know loves.

I've never met a single person who didn't like Raiders of the Lost Arc.

My wife hates when I watch Groundhog Day.

I have never heard anyone bad-mouth Christmas Vacation.

Raiders of the Lost Ark = Okay movie but vastly overrated.
Rear Window = Hitch has done better.
The Great Escape = Haven't seen it.

High Fidelity = Hated it.
Shawshank Redemption = Hated it.

Very good film, however it is primarily for action-movie geeks. Others find the story too unrealistic or violent, and are disturbed by the relationship between Leon and Matilda.

Braveheart = Hated it.
Heat = Good movie but overrated.
Saving Private Ryan = Good movie. But too long.
Fargo = Hated it.

Great movie but many people find it overly sentimental.

I don't care much for Groundhog Day. I saw it when it first came out and have never had a desire to see it again. I think the similarly themed TV movie 12:01 which came out the same year is far superior.

If we're talking kids and adults, I'd have to go with The Incrdibles.

If it just adults, and teens, I'd go with Smokey and the Bandit.

I almost liked 'Leon' but it was just a bit too pedophiliac for my tastes, and now that Portman has turned into the babe she's turned into, it's even a less comfortable watch now. I thought 'Raiders' was pretty lame, even at the time. 'Groundhog Day' was okay, but nothing special ('Quick Change' was MUCH better.) 'Private Ryan' would have been good except for the sickening opening and closing scenes - those are classic examples of why I hate Spielberg films (mostly).

And I'm the guy who didn't enjoy 'Back To The Future.' Hated it, in fact.

I think that the more well known a movie is, the less chance you have of it appealing to the majority . . . too many people out there ready to find fault with it just because.

Along those lines, everyone that I've talked to who has seen Kurosawa's Ikiru has had a good opinion of it.

It's not. The whole thread is determining a movie that everyone enjoys, and he refuted the ones given.

By the way, I hated Fargo and High Fidelity too.

I doubt you can find a movie with little more than 50-60% approval.
