I haven't read much of a few of the reviews to avoid spoilers (the authors warn of them ahead of time), but while the film could be considered "controversial," it's not uniformly thought terrible, as there are some that quite liked it. It's apparently quite a departure from the original storyline of the TV show though.

That's interesting. I know Australia (Madman Ent. specifically) can't confirm anything on it yet. I guess it's a wait and see.

I will continue to wait until *ALL* four or whatever the eventual amount will be, are released on BD before I watch them.

And I will continue to hope I can watch the series for the first time before the inevitable Bluray boxset of the rebuilds come out so I know whether or not to invest. I've had the Platinum box sitting on my shelf waiting for the right opportunity to watch for some time now.

It's anyone's guess. Evangelion 3.0 was released in the U.S. later than most regions around the world. So if it gets released in 2020, how long the wait would be for U.S.?

New Shin Evangelion Film Begins Dialogue Recording

The official Twitter account for the Evangelion anime revealed on Wednesday that dialogue recording has begun for Studio Khara's new Evangelion film, Shin Evangelion Gekijō-ban |. The post also revealed a photo of director Hideaki Anno's script.

The official website for the Neon Genesis Evangelion franchise announced on Friday that Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 (Shin Evangelion Gekijō-ban |), Studio Khara's new Evangelion film, will open in theaters in Japan in June 2020. A new teaser video also debuted on the same day in Japanese theaters, but the announcement noted that the teaser will have to wait "a short while" before the video is available online. The site also revealed the below visual.
