3rd Evangelion Remake Film to Open Fall 2012
posted on 2011-08-26 10:01 EDT
Announcement made during new preview of film after 2nd film's TV premiere
The anime studio Khara confirmed that Evangelion Shin Gekijō-ban Q Quickening, the third film in Hideaki Anno and Khara's four-part remake of Gainax's Neon Genesis Evangelion anime series, will open in Japan in Fall of 2012. The announcement was made during a new preview of the film that aired after the television premiere of the second film.
The title of the third film was first revealed with a teaser that ran at the end of the second film's theatrical release. The "Q" or "Kyū" in the third film's title is a wordplay in Japanese; the first three films' subtitles are the names for the three classical movements (Jo-Ha-Kyū or Introduction-Exposition-Climax) of traditional Japanese music such as gagaku and Noh.

Re: Rebuild of Evangelion
That's going to be a long wait for the DVD release.
Part 1 was increadible and Part 2 was amazing.
I really enjoyed the original series, but the pacing and condensed format of these movies along with new animation are spectacular.

Re: Rebuild of Evangelion
Like many, I enjoyed the original series to a point, but was disappointed by the non-nonsensical direction the story took and the failure to write the characters a satisfying conclusion. I also hated the 'End of Evangelion' movie.
I was hoping, like in the first film, they would clean up a lot of the problems with the characters and story and try and make some sense out of it. But, it all falls apart in the second movie. As random and non-nonsensical as anything in the series, and probably worse. The conclusion was comical in a very bad way.
Rather than distance themselves from a lot of the pretentious and downright silly Christian symbolism and mythological components to the story, they have decided to double down on this part of the series. Completely unexplained terminology is constantly thrown around in dramatic fashion and the viewer is just clueless as to what is going on, so it falls flat. It just becomes too absurd to enjoy. I could look past and laugh at the camp in the series, but it is over the top in this movie. Inexplicable is really the best word for it.
The writing for the characters hasn't improved much either, which is kind of what I wanted from these remakes. Not much in the way of added development here, although they clearly attempted such. It mostly feels superficial and uninteresting.
At least some of the animation was cool, but far from amazing. I didn't mind much though, because I respected they tried to maintain a consistent visual style to the series. Same with the music. It feels kind of low-budget 90s, but that was part of the appeal to the series. In fact, this is the best aspect of the movies, and now I almost wish the movies had continued as a simple retelling like the first film.

Re: Rebuild of Evangelion
And, can anyone who has seen the 2nd movie and series remind me where we're at in the story?
If I recall, this second movie covered pretty much all the major plot points from the series episodes 7-20, pretty much right up to the conclusion?
I guess it's hard to say since the story is so different this time around.

Re: Rebuild of Evangelion
Are you sure? I thought the only reason this took so long to come out was to finish the last movie? If that isn't the case why did this take so long to come out?
