Several people who worked on the Star Trek: The Next Generation series were fans of the show, but none more than Emmy and Hugo award winner Rick Sternbach, the senior illustrator and technical consultant for the series, who would often slip in various references to Dirty Pair into episodes. As an example, one of the primary components of holodeck emitters is Keiyurium! And you might note that the design of the Exocomps looks… familiar. We’re incredibly honored to have the opportunity to have Rick discuss his love of the series and anime in general!

The only thing I ever knew about this series was the bit about Rick Sternbach. I suppose I should check it out sometime.

"Tokyo 24th Ward" is the newest production from studio Cloverworks! The anime is an original work by NITRO PLUS writer, Vio Shimokura (Steins;Gate) and director, Naokatsu Tsuda (Jojo's Bizarre Adventure). "Tokyo 24th Ward" premieres in January 2022!
The Far Eastern Special Administrative Region, also known as the 24th Ward, is a man-made island that sits in Tokyo Bay. Shuta, Ran, and Koki were born and raised on the island. Their family backgrounds, preferences, and personalities are completely different, but they are childhood friends who have always stuck together. However, one incident changed their relationship forever.
A year afterward, the three friends are reunited by chance at a memorial service held for the incident. All three of their phones suddenly ring simultaneously. Their friend, who is supposed to be dead, is calling and demands that they make a decision about the future. The three friends do what they believe is best to protect the 24th Ward and its inhabitants.

Together with aspiring painter Kiyoshiro, Hareluya will take on whatever curveballs life may throw his way.
Directed by Kiyoshi Egami (City Hunter ’91, episode director Busou Shinki), HARELUYA II BOY is animated by TRIANGLE STAFF (Venus Wars, Serial Experiments Lain) with character design from Takahiro Kishida (Haikyuu!!, BTOOOM!, Baccano!). The series is based upon the manga series by original creator Haruto Umezawa (Bremen, Beast Wheeler).
The series stars Shinichiro Miki (Gingitsune, Hakuoki ~Demon of the Fleeting Blossom~, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood) as Hareluya Hibino, Yusei Oda (Little Busters!, World Trigger, When They Cry: Kai) as Makoto Ichijo, Naoko Miura (Soul Hunter, Kindaichi Shounen no Jikenbo, Shinkai Densetsu Meremanoid) as Michiru Yamana and Yuji Ueda (Detroit Metal City, Hell Girl, Deca-Dence) as Kiyoshiro Okamoto.
Sentai will stream HARELUYA II BOY in association with select digital outlets with a home video release to follow.
