VIZ Media announces Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon, a new animation inspired by Inuyasha
SAN FRANCISCO, CA— A New Feudal Fairy Tale Begins. Inuyasha production team SUNRISE reunite to create the animation series Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon. Will Eisner Hall-of-Famer Rumiko Takahashi also joins the team as main character design.
Today, VIZ Media confirms Rights to the digital streaming, EST, and home video of Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon for North and Latin American territories.
In Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon, the daughters of Sesshomaru and Inuyasha set out on a journey transcending time. Set in feudal Japan, half-demon twins Towa and Setsuna are separated from each other during a forest fire. While desperately searching for her younger sister, Towa wanders into a mysterious tunnel that sends her into present-day Japan, where she is found and raised by Kagome Higurashi’s brother, Sota, and his family.
Ten years later, the tunnel that connects the two eras has reopened, allowing Towa to be reunited with Setsuna, who is now a demon slayer working for Kohaku. But to Towa’s shock, Setsuna appears to have lost all memories of her older sister. Joined by Moroha, the daughter of Inuyasha and Kagome, the three young women travel between the two eras on an adventure to regain their missing past.
“The three heroines are beautifully designed. I am looking forward to their adventures,” said Rumiko Takahashiwho designs the main characters. Teruo Sato will direct Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon, along with Katsuyuki Sumisawa on screenplay,while Yoshihito Hishinuma is responsible for animation character design, and music from Kaoru Wada. The animation production is by SUNRISE.

The multi-million dollar grossing Inuyasha franchise first started as a critically acclaimed manga series which English version was featured regularly on The New York Times Bestsellers list throughout the 2000s. The anime adaptation aired on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim block for over 11 years nearing 200 episodes. It has also spawned four successful feature film adaptations.

British distributor Anime Limited (All the Anime) announced during its Cloud Matsuri panel on Saturday that its upcoming Blu-ray Ultimate Edition of the B: The Beginning anime will be available in the United States, in addition to the United Kingdom. Anime Limited is still working on the details of the release, but said that people can buy the edition through at least Right Stuf. Anime Limited is aiming for an October timeframe for the dubbed and subtitled release, and it will include the complete first season, the original soundtrack CD, a "comprehensive 160-page art book," and a set of A4-sized art prints.

GKIDS, the acclaimed producer and distributor of animation for adult and family audiences, announced that it has acquired the North American distribution rights for the animated feature ON-GAKU: OUR SOUND from director Kenji Iwaisawa, based on the manga by Hiroyuki Ohashi. In production for over seven years, ON-GAKU: OUR SOUND is composed of over 40,000 hand drawn frames, using the rotoscoping animation technique. The film won the Nelvana Grand Prize at the 2019 Ottawa International Animation Festival, and has been selected for the Contrechamp Competition section at the upcoming 2020 Annecy International Animation Film Festival. GKIDS will release the film in 2020.
SYNOPSIS

GKIDS, the acclaimed producer and distributor of animation for adult and family audiences, announced that it has acquired the North American distribution rights for legendary animation house Studio Ghibli’s latest feature EARWIG AND THE WITCH. The film is directed by Goro Miyazaki (From Up on Poppy Hill, Tales from Earthsea) and produced by studio co-founder Toshio Suzuki, with planning on the feature from his father, Academy Award® -winner Hayao Miyazaki (Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro). Based on the children’s novel “Earwig and the Witch” by Diana Wynne Jones (“Howl’s Moving Castle”), the film marks Studio Ghibli’s first entirely 3DCG animated feature. An official selection for the 2020 Cannes Film Festival, the film is slated to air on NHK in Japan Winter 2020. GKIDS will release the film theatrically in North America in early 2021.
Director Goro Miyazaki has previously commented about the film, “Nowadays, in our country, there are many adults and few children. It must be tough for these children, so few of them having to deal with so many adults. It was while I was thinking about this that I got to know Earwig. And I realized, ‘That’s it!’ How does Earwig deal with the annoying adults? Please watch Earwig and The Witch to find out. She may be cheeky, but I sincerely hope that our adorable Earwig will encourage children and cheer up adults.”
