I might double dip on Gunslinger Girl if the price is right. I will probably pass on Witchblade as it will likely be a higher tier priced release (probably around SRP of $99.99).

I waiting for Vol.6 for Pumpkin Scissors (same thing can be said for Red Garden and Welcome to the NHK). It was delayed to 2/10/09. Time will tell if they get released this time around. The Pumpkin Scissors half season sets are out, so that should be what's on your Netflix list.

Triple dip for me. I've got individual volumes and box set.

Netflix showing the series up to volume 6, but they marked volume 6 "unknown release date".

It's kind of strange that they are going with the singles route. It would have been easier to go with the FUNi disc route from the half season sets.

I already have Blue Gender and Samurai 7 complete sets on DVD, but I'm up for purchasing all of the forthcoming Blu-Ray sets from Funi (everything except Dragonball that is), regardless of whether I already own it or not.

I really hope they release Darker Than Black as the trailer for it on the Vexille BD was amazing.

Rozen Maiden Traumend didn't wrap up the storyline as nicely as I would have liked. Still it was nice to fill up that lovely Velveteen artbox. Karin was fun to watch and like a guilty pleasure. When They Cry was great. Not everyone is going to like the select violent scenes. I never caught on to Kujibiki Unbalance. The storyline was just too bland and predictable. I only bought it because of the Genshiken OVAs.

Quick question on Star Blazers. I've been holding off on the season sets (VHS and DVD) of these for the longest time, mostly due to price and fear that they do not stand the test of time. I've also come to understand that Voyager's transfers are complete shit, but that hasn't been the primary deterrent.

Recently I'm thinking to Hell with my former logic and picking up both the Quest of Iscandar and The Comet Empire series. After recently finishing the Cowboy Bebop series (for the first time) I'm interested in doing some more galaxy traveling. I lived and breathed Star Blazers when I was a kid (7 or 8 when it was broadcast in the states) and I think this show might do it.

So, does the series still hold up well? For those of you that remember your first experience with Star Blazers many years ago and have since revisited the series, have you found it better, worse, just different? Just curious about what I'm setting myself up for.

I thought Star Blazers was remastered just last year but I guess not. Hell no this isn't worth the price. Great show but $126 for 1 set is butt rape.

hmmm I take that back. Maybe it is worth it but I doubt it.

I'm like you, and loved Star Blazers as a kid. I'd run home everyday to catch it. I bought the DVDs years ago, when they first came out. It seems kind of cheesy now, but I am still entertained by it. Not as much as when I was a kid, but I still enjoy it. I think the one thing I don't like is all the editing they did. When I was 6, I didn't know it was edited, but it's really noticable now. Although some of the edits/changes they did are so obvious now, they're kind of funny to watch. It's probably not worth full price, but if you can find them cheap somewhere, they might be worth picking up. I like the Yamato movies though. I think most of them have held up pretty well.

It's pretty good so far. So much mystery and I couldn't wait to see what happened next.


When I finally watched the Super Dimension Fortress Macross on DVD for the first time, I thought it was bad editing and storyline is somewhat blurred. I remember when I was in high school, I've collected all Robotech Macross comic book (actually very similar with TV series that I saw on DVD) and I thought it was great series. :shrug:

Macross is a great series. I've got the DVDs for both SDF Macross and Robotech. The Macross section of Robotech wasn't edited much at all. It's pretty much the same as the original Japanese show, with some small differences.

The older shows like Star Blazers and Battle of the Planets were edited a lot when they aired in the US. Both series were missing entire episodes. They would remove anything not kid friendly, like character deaths, smoking, drinking, or anything else. I do like how the doctor in Yamato was always drunk on sake, but in Star Blazers he drank "spring water".

Speaking of Yamato/Star Blazers, my friend just sent me a link to the Yamato done in Lego form. Pretty cool.

Just want to point out they completely changed the music which is actually good in the Japanese version.
