I like this temper pig, he's funny. Has anyone seen The Girl Who Leapt Through Time? I just watched it and thought it was quite good, though the last few minutes were not what I hoped for. |

Thanks for the reviews Visitor, I'm gonna have to check A.D. Police out.
I was watching Battle Angel the other day and caught a preview for Neon Genesis Evangelion. Read a few generic reviews and it looks like something I could get into, but I have some confusion. Which version is the most complete and best release of the series ... Perfect Collection, Platinum Collection or Platinum Perfect Collection? Any help would be great ..... Perfect is the original with extras? Platinum is thin pak rerelease with no extras? Platinum Perfect rerelease in tin packaging - any extras? Not sure if I have it down right. |

Unfortunately, the alternate feature-length ending End of Evangelion is OOP in North America. |
Re: Official ANIME Discussion Thread
Thanks for the quick replies guys. Very helpful.
As I'm trying to avoid any specific review sites to avoid even minor spoilers, so please forgive my ignorance. What is End of Evangelion (as depicted on Wikipedia below) in relation to Revival of Evangelion? Gainax launched the project to create a movie ending for the series in 1997. They first released Death and Rebirth, consisting of a highly condensed character-based recap and re-edit of the TV series (Death) and the first half of the new ending (Rebirth). The project was completed later in the year, and released as The End of Evangelion; The End of Evangelion is an alternate viewpoint of the series ending, which supplements episodes 25 and 26. The three were compiled as a single movie, the Revival of Evangelion in 1998. |
Re: Official ANIME Discussion Thread
I wanted to warn you (not that I'm trying to stop you from watching) that Neon Genesis Evangelion storyline can turn your brain into clay - which I called it "mind-fucking" story. It started off pretty good story, but later on - probably little after halfway, it started to become gibberish. I couldn't believe I actually sat through it.
Just wanted to warn you. |

D&R looks like it can be skipped as is since it appears only as a summary of a portion of the 26ep TV series (As The Laughing Man is for GITs SAC series I assume?). I'm not too concerned with it. But The End of Evangelion seems like a must for the completist (regardless as to true feelings about the seemingly ambiguous ending of the TV series). Am I warm?
In North America, Death and Rebirth and End of Evangelion were split back into two movies for their DVD release. The first half of the Death and Rebirth is redundant with the TV series, and the second half is redundant with End of Evangelion. Does that clarify things? You definitely want to track down End of Evangelion if you're a completist, since it literally replaces the last two episodes of the TV series with an alternate continuity. (You'll understand why they wanted to redo them once you see them.) The current North American DVD releases of the films are in pretty bad shape with a crappy non-anamorphic transfer, so I wouldn't advise paying too much for them if you can find them. They shouldn't be too hard to find for rent, since Manga Entertainment was pretty good at getting their titles distributed into mainstream video outlets like Blockbuster. |

I like this temper pig, he's funny. If you seen Kenshin and Kyo then your really not going to see anything you haven't before. Peacekeeper seemed to focus a bit more on the moral responsibility and consequences of revenge/fighting. |

Yeah, but the ending of the anime was so twisted and fucked up. Guts lead armies with that sword.

Woo Hoo, I think I've finally managed to complete my Ai Yori Aoshi collection. After buying the Vol. 1 & CD Pack and enjoying it, I went back and bought the brick set. Then I gradually picked up the second soundtrack CD and the LE versions of Enishi to get the figurines and the artbox for Enishi. I finally managed to track down an artbox for the first series. I tell you , that bad boy was freakin' hard to find.

360+ Theaters to Run Sword of the Stranger in February
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news...er-in-february "The demise of a ruler in a war-torn land led to endless battles. Those in power were overthrown by the weak. Even those with strength stooped low and became bandits. Lawlessness ran rampant throughout the land. An orphan boy named Kotaro journeys from mainland China to Japan, accompanied by Shoan, a monk. But they are not alone. A group of Ming warriors follows them to Japan, seeking the secret that Kotaro harbors in his body. After losing Shoan’s protection, Kotaro is left alone, except for the companionship of his dog Tobimaru. Kotaro heads for the Mangaku Temple in the Land of Akaike. Along the way, he meets an odd swordsman in a ruined temple. This man, “No Name”, has abandoned his name and vowed never again to unsheathe his sword. But when the assassins from the mainland attack Kotaro, he is saved by No Name, and the unlikely pair become traveling companions. Meanwhile, Bai-Luan, the head of the mainland assassins, conspires with the feudal lord of Akaike to capture Kotaro, while preparing for a suspicious ceremony. Among the group, a blond-haired, blue-eyed warrior named Luo-Lang stands out above the rest; and though he follows his master’s orders, he searches for a strong swordsman who matches his ability. Kotaro’s secret triggers the hidden ambitions and motives of numerous characters. As they travel together, No Name and Kotaro gradually form a bond. And No Name and Luo-Lang—tied by destiny—are fated to meet in the ultimate face-off!" http://stranger.bandai-ent.com/story.php Actually playing here.....! Mesa going to go watch |

Re: Official ANIME Discussion Thread
I forgot about this thread. It's been like 3 years since I posted. I used to collect lots of anime, but then kind of stopped collecting as much the last few years. I've been in a mood to get back in lately though.
I'm mostly re-watching stuff I own right now. I just finished Gundam SEED Destiny. I had bought some of the DVDs a few years ago, but didn't finish it. I just bought the rest and watched them all. I didn't think it was as bad as what I had heard. It's not the best Gundam series, but I thought it was entertaining. I re-watched Boogiepop Phantom after that. It made a little more sense the second time. You really have to pay attention to that one. I also just re-watched the Lodoss War OVA, and am now going through the TV series. The Lodoss OVA was one of the first series I bought on VHS back in the day. I liked it better back then, but it's still enjoyable to watch now. The TV series is decent. After this I'm planning on watching all of my Gundam UC DVDs in chronological order. The only new series that I've checked out recently is Death Note. I've only watched the first episode, but I liked it, and I think I'll get the whole series. I'm still looking around for some others to check out. |
Re: Official ANIME Discussion Thread
Death Note have released 8 volumes so far. I don't know when they're going to release 9 or beyond.
