I personally couldn't finish the first disc. I'm not exactly sure why, as it was a few years ago. I imagine it simply didn't hold my interest.

Has anyone seen The Girl Who Leapt Through Time? I just watched it and thought it was quite good, though the last few minutes were not what I hoped for.

No problem at all. I'm not really any good at reviews but I try to get the main premise or general feel of the series passed along at least.

I was watching Battle Angel the other day and caught a preview for Neon Genesis Evangelion. Read a few generic reviews and it looks like something I could get into, but I have some confusion. Which version is the most complete and best release of the series ... Perfect Collection, Platinum Collection or Platinum Perfect Collection? Any help would be great .....

Perfect is the original with extras?
Platinum is thin pak rerelease with no extras?
Platinum Perfect rerelease in tin packaging - any extras?

Not sure if I have it down right.

IMO, tt's the best anime movie this year for N. America. The movie is great and I loved the soundtrack as well. 5cm per Second is pretty close to that as well.

There are three active complete collection releases for this series. I will use TRSI as a guide.

• Platinum Collection (Thinpak) - NO EXTRAS
• Platinum Perfect Collection (Tin) - INCLUDES EXTRAS/NO BOOKLETS. THINPAKS HOUSED INSIDE A TIN CASE.
• Platinum Holiday Edition - INCLUDE EXTRAS/NO BOOKLETS. HOUSED INSIDE A BRICK CASE.

One of the Platinum collections is the way to go over the "regular" Perfect collection, since they have massively cleaned-up video, optional 5.1 mixes, and extended Director's Cuts for four episodes. Beyond that, the only difference among the myriad Platinum releases is that some include extras and some don't. Frankly, the only extras that I thought were interesting were the booklets included with the very first Platinum releases -- which are long OOP -- so I'd just go with the cheapest Platinum collection.

Unfortunately, the alternate feature-length ending End of Evangelion is OOP in North America.

As I'm trying to avoid any specific review sites to avoid even minor spoilers, so please forgive my ignorance. What is End of Evangelion (as depicted on Wikipedia below) in relation to Revival of Evangelion?

As it is described, Revival is a packaging of three? Which three? I only see two, Death and Rebirth and The End of Evangelion. D&R looks like it can be skipped as is since it appears only as a summary of a portion of the 26ep TV series (As The Laughing Man is for GITs SAC series I assume?). I'm not too concerned with it. But The End of Evangelion seems like a must for the completist (regardless as to true feelings about the seemingly ambiguous ending of the TV series). Am I warm?

I wanted to warn you (not that I'm trying to stop you from watching) that Neon Genesis Evangelion storyline can turn your brain into clay - which I called it "mind-fucking" story. It started off pretty good story, but later on - probably little after halfway, it started to become gibberish. I couldn't believe I actually sat through it.

You're close. Death and Rebirth was originally released as a teaser for End of Evangelion, and it had the recap part ("Death") plus an early workprint of the first half of End of Evangelion ("Rebirth"). Most home video releases of the films have just combined the "Death" recap with both halves of End of Evangelion into one film.

In North America, Death and Rebirth and End of Evangelion were split back into two movies for their DVD release. The first half of the Death and Rebirth is redundant with the TV series, and the second half is redundant with End of Evangelion. Does that clarify things?

You definitely want to track down End of Evangelion if you're a completist, since it literally replaces the last two episodes of the TV series with an alternate continuity. (You'll understand why they wanted to redo them once you see them.)

The current North American DVD releases of the films are in pretty bad shape with a crappy non-anamorphic transfer, so I wouldn't advise paying too much for them if you can find them. They shouldn't be too hard to find for rent, since Manga Entertainment was pretty good at getting their titles distributed into mainstream video outlets like Blockbuster.

I personally enjoyed the series......then again I love any Anime where swords is a large part of the show.

If you seen Kenshin and Kyo then your really not going to see anything you haven't before. Peacekeeper seemed to focus a bit more on the moral responsibility and consequences of revenge/fighting.

I couldn't finish it myself. After the introduction the third character it peeked up and then fell flat. I also thought the lack personality for some of the characters made the series that even more strange...and well dull. Just not my cup of tea either.

I really tried to get into Berserk but couldn't. It looked liked the guy was swinging a skyscraper around. The animation also had that older crude feeling which showed its age and that did not help things for me...just couldn't get past that.

Whenever I get caught up I will consider buying the series and giving it another chance. Anything with a sword is worth another shot....unless it involves giant metal robots....

Woo Hoo, I think I've finally managed to complete my Ai Yori Aoshi collection. After buying the Vol. 1 & CD Pack and enjoying it, I went back and bought the brick set. Then I gradually picked up the second soundtrack CD and the LE versions of Enishi to get the figurines and the artbox for Enishi. I finally managed to track down an artbox for the first series. I tell you , that bad boy was freakin' hard to find.

Every time I hear that title "Ai Yori Aoshi" I always think of Tina's boob check. :lol: I don't really into romance series, but I saw the whole thing because of Tina.

I don't know, I'm not big on the romance series in general, but I've really enjoyed the harem shows since someone recommended Tenchi Muyo to me around 10 years ago, and I saw it on Toonami many years ago. I just particularly enjoyed Ai Yori Aoshi and ended up scouriing online stores for the LEs and artboxes at a good price in order to complete my set.

I forgot about this thread. It's been like 3 years since I posted. :lol: I used to collect lots of anime, but then kind of stopped collecting as much the last few years. I've been in a mood to get back in lately though.

I'm mostly re-watching stuff I own right now. I just finished Gundam SEED Destiny. I had bought some of the DVDs a few years ago, but didn't finish it. I just bought the rest and watched them all. I didn't think it was as bad as what I had heard. It's not the best Gundam series, but I thought it was entertaining. I re-watched Boogiepop Phantom after that. It made a little more sense the second time. :lol: You really have to pay attention to that one. I also just re-watched the Lodoss War OVA, and am now going through the TV series. The Lodoss OVA was one of the first series I bought on VHS back in the day. I liked it better back then, but it's still enjoyable to watch now. The TV series is decent. After this I'm planning on watching all of my Gundam UC DVDs in chronological order.

The only new series that I've checked out recently is Death Note. I've only watched the first episode, but I liked it, and I think I'll get the whole series. I'm still looking around for some others to check out.
