The buy.com offer was awesome! This set s one of my favorites! One of the goriest and sleaziest anime series Ive seen!

Abe. 11-25-07 08:46 PM

I considered getting that set, but I've already seen the show twice through, and really don't see myself watching it again. It's nice, though.

tonyc3742 11-25-07 09:27 PM

You just cost me fifty bucks. That's a series that has always been on my "hmm, I'd like to get that" but the 2 seasons separately were too expensive for a blind buy. I ended up ordering from FYE.com (hope they don't jack me around) because I had a gift card; after free shipping and coupon code it was about the same as on buy.com (I'm not eligible for GCO discount, and I don't want to fool with the multiple accounts). And I'm a sucker for cool packaging.
Anyway, not sure how recently I've asked this, but I'm suffering from the inertia of too much choice, or, "What Do I Want to Watch" syndrome; Recommend me a series to start watching next:
Cardcaptor Sakura (I'm on disk 10 of the original releases)
Chobits
Daphne in the Brilliant Blue
Doki Doki School Hours
Excel Saga
Galaxy Railways
Godannar
Heat Guy H I J
Kiddy Grade
Koi Kaze
Paranoia Agent
Planetes (I've watched about half of this through rentals)
R.O.D. TV
Someday's Dreamers
Texhnoloyze
Witch Hunter Robin
The last thing I watched was Justice League S2, and the last anime I've watched completely were Last Exile and Stellvia.

That is one interesting packaging for Gantz. I already have the 2 thinpaks, so I won't double dip on this one.

McHawkson 11-25-07 10:02 PM

I would suggest you finish with Cardcaptor Sakura first and then to Chobits. Chobits is great series. It got me impatient waiting for Netflix to send me another disc, so I went to Anime store near my work and bought the set.

Rest of the list, I cannot comment because I haven't seen any of them, except for Chobits.

GHackmann 11-25-07 10:17 PM

Paranoia Agent is mandatory viewing, as far as I'm concerned. Bump it up to the top of your list.

Excel Saga ranges from dull to sheer genius, depending on the episode and the viewer's knowledge of the subject they're lampooning. Be warned that it's also incredibly crude and offensive at times; the director has even admitted that the last episode (which has a reputation for "going too far") was an exercise in seeing how far they could push the boundaries of good taste while still being funny.

Maxflier 11-25-07 11:29 PM

I'll second Chobits, but Galaxy Railways would be an excellent choice as well.

That caught me to get it. I almost got the one that you have but too expensive for me until this I saw and add the buy.com sale (and the GCO with it)

Its the best timing.. since the first 2 season boxset released were so expensive.

Anyways, finish cardcaptor sakura or go for Paranoia Agent while wating for your order to arrive!

I've seen these series, and I'll vouch for them. I would say that the best overall series probably is Heat Guy J. Godannar edges out Daphne in the Brilliant Blue for most fan service per volume. Excel Saga is... well, it is what it is. It's thoroughly watchable and a little bit exhausting.

WTK 11-26-07 08:53 AM

I have seen these titles. I would probably go with Chobits, Heat Guy J, or Kiddy Grade.

Chobits
Heat Guy J
Planetes
R.O.D. TV
Texhnoloyze
Paranoia Agent
Kiddy Grade
Witch Hunter Robin
Daphne in the Brilliant Blue

Koi Kaze

I have the R3 (Taiwan) 3-Disc Death Note Movies Collection. It's a gorgeous packaging though I have yet to watch them.

From what I have seen so far, Death Note is a fantastic anime series. It's even better that Viz Media is giving it a monthly release treatment.

Well, at least it'll match my steelbook for the previous Appleseed movie, and Best Buy will probably have it for way less like they usually do. Only bummer is that I don't know why they don't stick the HD discs in the steelbooks - that'd be boss!

The steelbook is currently listed on BestBuy.com for $29.99.

BB tends to lower their prices on these things in-store (lower than online pre-orders) on the day of their release - not always, but sometimes.

That is true. But for this type of anime release, it will be surprising if they drop anything beyond $5.

Abe. 11-29-07 03:56 PM

Man, now I don't know if I want the Blu-Ray or the Steel Case... decisions...

I'm glad I waited for the boxed set of Speed Grapher... it was worth the wait.

WTK would you happen to have a photo of the Taiwan boxset? Mine's the Korean Boxset.

Thanks for the info on the Viz Media streetdates treatment.

I will try to take some picture and post them when I get a chance tonight. However the pictures won't look as good as your though.

Got any idea when we will see the FUNimation re-release of license rescued Love Hina? I wonder if FUNimation will release individual volumes, box sets, or go straight to Viridian.

McHawkson 11-30-07 12:43 PM

I have seen Love Hina box set at Best Buy.

I have no idea. The earliest would be probably in late spring or summer. FUNimation also has Negima!? slated to be released in the summer. So maybe they will tie in the Love Hina re-release with Negima!?.

That boxset will be one of the Bandai Entertainment release. They no longer have the rights to Love Hina, so those Bandai Ent. releases are considered to be OOP. Not shockingly FUNimation has rescued the series.
