Are there not blockbuster movies like this released every Mother's Day?

What Marvel movies do I have to watch to understand this? I've only watched three in the previous decade or so and that was Deadpool, Ironman, and Guardians of the Galaxy. I'm really intrigued by the very positive reception.

Deadpool isn't part of the MCU, so it doesn't count for what we're talking about here. And Guardians, while it is part of the MCU, is mostly stand along, and isn't referenced in anything else yet.

You could probably get a good amount of enjoyment from it without seeing anything else, but if you want to understand most of what is referenced, I would recommend the first 2 Captain America movies, the two Avengers movies, and Ant-Man (in this order: Cap 1, Avengers, Cap 2, Avengers: AoU, Ant-Man)

You don't HAVE to but holy shit, Avengers 1 And Cap 2. Go. Now.

You absolutely need to see Cap 1 and 2. They set up some of the relationships in this movie, especially Cap and Bucky and Cap and Peggy Carter (& her niece)

Cap is more of a supporting character in Avengers 1 and 2, but there are references to the events of both movies in this one.

Agreed that Cap 1/2 and Avengers 1/2 are recommended viewing, with Cap 1/2 the more essential to getting the jist of the main characters involved.

Um it is also Prom weekend in many places and Mother's Day. That will impact the opening as well. Oh well, didn't break the record. So bomb???
