Watched the theatrical cut Sunday night and loved it. Affleck is 2 for 2.

The truck robbery while they're wearing the nun outfits was just pure excitement. That was a great sequence. Solid all-around thriller.

Yeah the nun scene is definitely one of the better movie robberies that I can think of. Had the same sort of energy that The Dark Knight bank heist had.

Easily his best film?

Michael Mann has also made much better films than The Town.

Sorry but I have to summarily dismiss your opinion. You sir...don't know what you're talking about.

this.

Public Enemies is not Michael Mann's best film, that would be The Insider. Nor is The Town anywhere close to ANYTHING in Mann's filmography (Public Enemies included).

I just couldn't get past how boring the movie was. Saw it in the theaters and rented the Extended Cut, neither time could I get involved in the story. There was absolutely nothing special about it, not even from any the amazingly talented supporting cast (Gossip Girl excluded, shes not talented).

The Town was nowhere near as boring as Miami Vice.

Actually The Town was pretty damn entertaining if a bit standard.

while I do know and understand that is probably the general consensus, I don't feel that way at all. Miami Vice ended up being a film that grew on me and I now consider one of the best from 2006.

That's how I felt too. I was actually predicting that it would end like The Highwayman.

[Michael Mann rant] I can't believe people actually enjoyed that piece of shit on celluloid known as Manhunter.

Red Dragon surpasses it on so many levels, that absurdity of comparing the two is just beyond me. [/end Michael Mann rant]

Now, back to that gem known as The Town....

+1 on Miami Vice. I hated it when I saw it in theaters and then watched it on HBO about a year later and started seeing it differently. I think my problem was comparing it or wanting it to be like the TV show that first time. After watching it a few more times I just went ahead and bought it.

I thought The Town was a pretty pedestrian, by the numbers caper film. Solid but certainly nothing extraordinary. I really don't get all the fanfare.

I thought the ending was pretty weak.

3 stars.

Have you watched Mann's director's cut? It has a few minor key changes that benefit the movie (namely a different opening, music placement and extended Cuba segment).

I liked The Town -- and will likely give it a second viewing by checking out the extended version.

Finally got around to watching this tonight and loved it.

I thought it was a fantastic flick with the only semi-weak spot being Blake lively. ben affleck is really becoming a great director. Really looking forward to what he does next.

I don't know how I missed this but YES I have seen Mann's director's cut and it makes the movie that much better. Thanks for asking.
