Strangest movie you've seen recently?
Just got done with an odd marathon of Paprika, House (1977 Japan), and Happiness of the Katakuris... it's pretty unusual for Paprika to be the most normal movie of a set.
Anyone seen anything exceptionally odd lately?

THX-1138. Just some really random stuff in there... unexplained characters, shots, etc. The upgraded effects aren't nearly as seamless as I remembered, not to mention the strange monkey creatures at the end. I still enjoyed the film, but i was laughing at half of it.

Roman Polanski's Repulsion. Throughout the whole movie, I kept getting a weird Eraserhead vibe from it. I ended up liking it a lot more than I thought I would.

In the Dust of the Stars. An East German sci-fi flick from the 70's thats available on Netflix Streaming. Awkward and funky at the same time, it's excellent fodder for Cinematic Titanic.

As a kid...I watched Eyes Wide Shut...I honestly didn't know wtf was going on cuz I was confused the whole time Cruise was at that mansion. Today....I'm thematically confused by EWS.

House (Hausu) for me as well. Damn weird movie, but oddly enjoyable. And the Blu-ray picture quality was stunning.

After watching the clips from the movies mentioned, I definitely need to see Dogtooth and The Reflecting Skin. Saw Mr. Nobody the other day, it would certainly be categorized as strange as well though nothing compared to some of the others I've seen.

The Tripper, directed by David Arquette. Not only one of the strangest movies I have seen recently, but one of the worst.

I was watching some different flicks over the past few weeks. Lots of Miike (including the Dead or Alive Trilogy), Dead Alive is brilliant.
I also discovered Alejandro Jodorowsky a few months ago. Watched El Topo and Holy Mountain so far. El Topo has really stuck with me.
These are probably considered the well known strange movies. But I found them recently and absolutely love them.
I must say, I needed to get some mainstream Hollywood back in me. Watched Machete and 2012 this weekend. That's the thing about surreal movies. They can really take you out of your element. My earliest memory of this was the uncut Brazil. And I was just really out of it for a few days. Nothing seemed quite right. It's like getting over a cold and medicine.

After Jodorowsky, you should try Arrabal (both founders of the "Panic Movement" along with Roland Topor).
Especially "Viva la Muerte" and "I Will Go Like a Crazy Horse", which parallel Jodorowsky's "Fando y Lis" (based on Arrabal's play), and "Holy Mountain", in a Yin/Yang sort of way.
