I'm starting to think that Ubisoft themselves leaked info and then a trailer to take our eyes and criticism off of their forthcoming Watch Dogs game.

Right. I'm sure UbISoft was saying "Hey let's release an Assassins Creed trailer now so people will suddenly forget about a game that is coming out in two months and only talk about this".

Sure seems a bit like it. So, who was this person that "leaked" the information in the first place? Nobody said that they want us to forget about it but rather not focus so much on what is now an obvious weakness for the console versions.

Oh I'm sure Ubi "leaked it". However they've done stuff like this in the past before and played with viral announcements. Heck they did the same thing last year with Blood Dragon. And as for people not focusing on WD's weaknesses, people already seem to be over it for the most part. They were shocked by the trailer and they've since moved on.

I'm seriously looking at getting this...now to find three other friends who will to. The four-player co-op mode should be very interesting....Rainbow Four: French Revolution

So is this not being called Assassin's Creed V: Unity? What's the rhyme or reason for when they include a number or not?

It's not V, no. I imagine the reason is the 4-player co-op. They may very well be looking to to spin this off into its own sub-series.

Same boat here. Brotherhood was alright, and I really liked IV but those are the only two in the franchise I've really enjoyed.

A few games are "rebooting" or dropping the number or something, i.e. Crackdown instead of Crackdown 3.

In case some are wondering just how th coop part is going to work in Unity...
Here’s how it works. While wandering the world, you regularly enter taverns scattered around Paris. These taverns act as a social hub, and often have merchants from whom you can pick up new equipment. More importantly, if you have any friends currently playing Unity, you’ll see a “ghost” version of that player sitting about in the tavern. This indicates that player is out doing missions in their own instance of the game. You can approach their ghost and request to join their mission. If accepted, you are transitioned to their game and both of you reset to the most recent checkpoint, and continue on from there.
A few other highlights....
This new Assassin’s Creed includes a dramatically expanded number of interior buildings. In fact, we’re told that one in four of the buildings in Paris have interiors to explore
Unity also includes a brand new system for tracking things to do in the area. Run up onto a rooftop and stop moving for a moment, and you see a number of icons pop up onto the screen, showing you nearby objects of interests you could head toward instead of having to pull up the map
The AC Unity team claims that they’ve gone back to build the free-running system from the ground up. Many of the elements of this redesigned navigation system remain undetailed, but we did see one element – controlled descent. Designed to be an alternative to always having to look for hay stacks to leap into, controlled descents are meant to let Arno rapidly move down off an elevated position with ease.
As it’s presented in the game, Paris is a massive playground. If you don’t count the ocean, the sprawling cityscape of Paris, including its many interiors and underground catacombs, is twice the size of the world in Assassin’s Creed III.
Up to 1000 individual AI characters can appear in a crowd, each acting independently and reacting to each other and, more importantly, to your actions. Unlike previous games, Unity now includes truly dense crowds – groups so tightly spaced that neither you nor your enemy targets can run through them.

Have you always wanted an Assassin's Creed animated short by Rob Zombie and Tony Moore? Your wish will be granted at Comic Con. Should be interesting...

There are two videos up on The Making of Assassins Creed Unity that are actual good with about half footage and half behind the scenes on making with comentary. Here is the first one and Destiny might be THE Game this year but AC:Unity might be the best overall looking and impessive....

Jade! She seemed to have disappeared after AC1.
Anyways, it looks really nice (parkouring down NotreDame, all those NPCs), and I hope it breaks the streak of good even-numbered AC games/bad odd-numbered AC games. But I mostly hope the co-op aspects don't break the single-player game like they tend to to in, oh, pretty much every game that has co-op.
