Interesting that next year will be a completely different show essentially except for Claire and Jamie. Different locale, costumes, more scifi elements possibly etc...obviously they will go back to Scotland at some point will be interesting to see how they get there.

Although some parts of the Season Finale were a bit much, I still enjoyed Season 1 overall. Looking forward to them going to France, as I have not read the books so I have no idea where the story is headed.

I agree that some parts were a bit much but those who have read the books seem to indicate that it was critical to be that graphic and it seems to have some significance later on. I really enjoyed season 1 (except for the long break in the middle), looking forward to season 2.

I read one article that said the next season is supposedly only 13 episodes, so hopefully they don't split them up and run them consecutively. If that is true, they said then they may hold it off til the spring. I'm pretty sure it said they were shooting season 2 now.

Looks like you were right, it will be 2016 and sequential. Sounds like the number of episodes might go up.

What an incredibly well done show. I just watched the season finale, and had two lingering thoughts, primarily about who Black Jack Randall is.
I wonder if the books ever explored the connection between Black Jack Randall and the Duke of Sandringham. They mentioned that he met a teenaged Jamie Fraser at Castle Leoch, and that he clearly took a "liking" to him. Of course he could simply be gay and that's all, but the hint that he was attracted to a teenage Jamie makes one wonder if he also met Randall as a boy, and perhaps this was the beginning of Randall's dark side, as well as the nature of their connection, and the reason he protects Randall now.
Being entirely unfamiliar with the books, I also had a different inconsistent theory -- that the reason Black Jack Randall and Frank Randall look identical to one another wasn't just similar ancestry. I wondered if Frank at some point "fell through time" as well, but to an earlier point in history, and that he suffered from amnesia. That would have been quite a twist to have this sadistic madman actually be Claire's husband. They hinted in "Both Sides Now" that Frank has the capacity for darkness. One of the reasons I thought this could be the reveal is because of this still image from the beginning of "The Garrison Commander" showing what looks to be a modern wristwatch sitting in a redcoat's quarters:
I confess that I didn't think watches had been invented yet, so I believed it could be a trinket he has had for years without understanding where it came from. That would have been kind of neat to put a clue in without further exploration, and let it linger unexplained all season. But, alas, it appears that wristwatches were already invented by then.

Season 2 teaser. Says it will come out Spring 2016.

It's been reported they will film at least 13 episodes, so it sounds like there is room for potentially more. But, I hope they don't do the split season thing again. The 6 1/2 months between half seasons was absurd.

I finished the first season's volume one last week as I was able to check it out from the library.
It's much better than I was expecting.

I’m crazy late to this thread even though I started it! How has it been 4 years?
Anyway, for those who have it, seasons 1 and 2 are available on Netflix. I just finished season 1. Some general thoughts, though I won’t go into a lot. Obviously, spoilers.
Its based on books, which I haven’t read, so it definitely takes time to get going. Probably wasn’t until episode 3 or 4 where things started to settle in. I will say as Claire started to settle, the show did too. The season was split up into different segments.

- Claire Adjusting
- Partnered life
- Freedom and Prison break
I skipped chunks of the last two episodes, mostly because I didn’t want to sit through the torture. The hangings were bad enough. Luckily I skipped all the rape stuff too...
I was surprised by the ending. I assumed to escape the situation Claire would convince Jamie they’d need to use the stones to leave that time. Aside from Claire telling Randle his future, the show didn’t really touch on the sci-fi aspects after the trial.
I’ll check out season 2, but don’t feel like I’m in a rush.

Based on your statement I decided to try season two. Only 10 minutes in, but the first two were already better than the season 1 finale! Of course I expect the remainder of the season 2 to be a catch-up.

I’m catching up with this show as well. I’m almost done with season 1, have the finale led to watch them on to season 2.
So so far it’s not bad but not great. I’m already tiring of the “have sex, get caught by Redcoats, escape, have sex, get caught again”, redundant plot that’s been going on all season. Hopefully there’s more to it in the next few seasons.
My wife, on the other hand, loves it. So I’m stuck watching it through to the end whether I like it or not.
