Re: Man of Steel 2 - News, rumors, etc.

I think Vaughn would be a good choice but saying you want to make a modern version of Donner's movie gives me not so good flashbacks to Superman Returns. :shudder:

Though the last sentence of that mumbled quote does give me a lot of hope!

Vaughn calling the shots on this, and really the DC universe movies, would give me more hope we get at the very least fun entertaining ones - and not the bleak CGI shit-fests we keep getting - with the exception of WW.

Re: Man of Steel 2 - News, rumors, etc.

In an interview with The New York Times, DCEU producer Charles Roven admitted that Man of Steel 2 is not something Warner Bros. is focusing on right now, meaning fans shouldn’t expect it to arrive in the near future… if it ever arrives at all.

“The Superman sequel “Man of Steel 2″ also isn’t coming anytime soon, if at all,” said the outlet. “Roven says there’s no script but “various story ideas” are being kicked around.”

Yep, they're going to inevitably reboot this in about 6 years. Sorry Cavill, back to doing British tv shows for you.

It's sad really...they have the greatest superhero of all time and can't seem to get a movie or three going? Pathetic.

Yes, Superman Returns. Fail. Reboot. Man of Steel. Fail. Reboot.

Yep. No reason to be skeptical about the future of the DCEU at all. I’m just a hater.

More JL movies or appearances elsewhere. The news can change next week if JL is a smash and they feel confident with Superman.

And Cavill is much better cast than Affleck.
Superman has a weak rogues gallery, but some really wondrous stories. Imaginative stuff closer to science-fiction than typical superhero stuff.

Re: Man of Steel 2 - News, rumors, etc.

The real interesting thing is we have to wait 13 months for the next 'scheduled' movie, which is Aqua-man. Marvel has 4 movies out within an 8 month period. (Thor/Black Panther/Avengers/Ant-man)

They need to hire anyone with vision and start moving the ball. Most likely, Superman is being put on the back burner for a Flash movie.

It's all put on a back burner to see how JL does at the box office. If it's a dud, they'll Dark Universe the whole thing and start from scratch. If it's a hit, Ben Affleck will suddenly announce that he's decided to stay on as Batman.

Agreed. And in my opinion a perfect Superman in Cavill. It’s a damn shame they wasted him on a mediocre stand alone film, and a couple of ensemble superhero flicks. If they would have written him right he could have been the best Superman of all. Not to mention a pretty damn well cast Lois Lane.

It’s a damn shame. Such a disservice to the characters and cast.

Exactly. We've seen so many movies get the green light on a Monday morning

Exactly. movies get fast tracked into development and production all the time.

If Justice League is a huge hit, they could easily fast track development of another Superman movie for 2020 or 2021.

Same with a Justice League sequel.

What does that say about the confidence they have in these films though? I mean for fucks sake if they’re having that hard of a time determining if one of their most iconic characters gets a sequel that’s kind of pathetic. Superman is the type of character that’s known enough that by name alone he should get people in the door. It’s not like he’s some B list character they’re taking a shot in the dark at when it comes to deciding if a new film should be made.

It may be their most iconic character, but if the character or film doesn't resonate with audiences, they have to go with characters that do.

A lot of people here think the Man of Steel was a bad film. If studio execs see that type of opinion, they're not going to understand the legitimate criticisms of the film. Remember, their answer to Man of Steel 2 was adding Batman to it.

While that’s true it only speaks to a larger problem. It shouldn’t be that hard to make Superman resonate with people.

Well, if that's true, then it's not pathetic that the studio is having reservations about a Man of Steel sequel.

Wasn't Batman Begins comparable to MoS? In flaws AND profits? Yeah, the scenes in BB with Bruce training with Ducard were cool, but the rest of the film wasn't that good. I take that back, the Tumbler was cool. But yeah, the girl from Dawson's Creek was bad, the city was in a weird sepia tone, the stupid weapon that explodes water, the dumb voice, "I won't kill you, but I don't have to save you"...

Re: Man of Steel 2 - News, rumors, etc.

I actually loved Batman Begins. It’s the best of the Nolan trilogy in my opinion. Honestly Man of Steel wasn’t that horrible either until the end. I actually probably liked that the best of the DCEU aside from Wonder Woman. The first half of Man of Steel is pretty strong. It’s only when the fight between him and Zod starts that it kind of falls apart.

Also if what you’re saying about the two films is true WB should have been able to learn from the mistakes of the first film and course correct. Instead Batman V Superman amplified a lot of the existing issues people had with Superman the first time around.

That's the prblem with the DC cinematic universe: They won't commit to anything. They're taking it one or two movies at a time, waiting to see what characters audiences respind to, then putting stuff in development hell that they think might be a hit. It's like we're one underperforming movie away from them scrapping the whole universe.

There is very little will or vision behind it. They want to have a string of hits and the cash flow they're seeing Marvel/Disney raking in, and believe they need to do something similar with their own properties, but refuse to commit to it.

Shit, they have Ben Affleck as Batman and Jared Leto as the Joker, and they can't get a fucking Batman movie made. Whereas Marvel has been planning fifteen movies ahead; the first Black Panther movie is in the can, they're filming the third and fourth Avengers movies and the second Ant-Man movie.

Re: Man of Steel 2 - News, rumors, etc.

The problem in my mind is that WB wanted to take the quick and easy route with these films and just expected people to latch on. There seems to have been very little build or planning to what they’ve wanted to do. It’s like they’ve been making things up as they go and are just hoping for the best and if things don’t go as hoped they can just scrap those plans and move on to the next things that hopefully will do better. That does nothing to create excitement for these films when they seem so half assed. Realistically DC could have a universe that’s as strong or stronger given the name value of Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman alone.

Yep, DC is in a constant state of catch-up with little will to really turn the DCEU into a thing. The MCU may be formulaic, but it's a formula that has been working for 10 years now.
