Re: The Official 8th Annual Sci-Fi/Fantasy Challenge Discussion Thread

Internet hype has had a big effect on how I end up feeling about movies I've seen the last few years. Either I like it because it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, or I don't like it because it...

Re: The Official 8th Annual Sci-Fi/Fantasy Challenge Discussion Thread

I was a little disappointed with that one myself, and I place the blame squarely on reading so many "Best. Marvel. Movie. Ever." comments on the internet.

I found a cheap 3D copy a few weeks back,...

Re: The Official 8th Annual Sci-Fi/Fantasy Challenge Discussion Thread

Based on my admittedly faulty memories; in the comics, he was crossing a busy NYC street and was hit by a truck carrying nuclear waste (which, I think, maybe, splashed on him). Anyway, as with most...

Re: The Official 8th Annual Sci-Fi/Fantasy Challenge Discussion Thread

That's what struck me originally. The character has (or should have, I haven't watched the show yet) super powers. How could it not count as sci-fi (or at least fantasy)? Relying solely on what the...

Re: The Official 8th Annual Sci-Fi/Fantasy Challenge Discussion Thread

And that doesn't make all the previous Punisher films (which are not part of the current "Marvel Cinematic Universe," which only includes the films & shows produced my Marvel) count as sci-fi. As you...

Re: The Official 8th Annual Sci-Fi/Fantasy Challenge Discussion Thread

I wasn't talking about the comic book "universes" in my post on the subject, just the "cinematic universes." The Netflix Daredevil show is supposed to take place in the same universe as the Avengers,...

Re: The Official 8th Annual Sci-Fi/Fantasy Challenge Discussion Thread

I just listened to the Kurt Russell & John Carpenter commentary on the Escape from New York Special Edition DVD and Kurt Russell says he played Snake with a Clint Eastwood style voice because Lee Van...

Re: The Official 8th Annual Sci-Fi/Fantasy Challenge Discussion Thread

I had forgotten this when it was previously discussed, but all the Marvel TV shows and films produced by Marvel are supposed to occur in a shared universe. So if say Avengers, Thor, and/or Agents of...

Re: The Official 8th Annual Sci-Fi/Fantasy Challenge Discussion Thread

I own a copy, but haven't read it yet, but maybe the original graphic novel has some of the answers you want.

And thanks for mentioning that film. I had forgotten it was based on a graphic novel,...

Re: The Official 8th Annual Sci-Fi/Fantasy Challenge Discussion Thread

I stumbled onto a copy (with a "Soon to be a Motion Picture" blurb on the cover) in a thrift store soon after I'd seen the movie. That's how I found out.

Re: The Official 8th Annual Sci-Fi/Fantasy Challenge Discussion Thread

Assuming it was this version (http://www.amazon.com/Restored-Limited-Edition-Steelbook-Blu-ray/dp/B006XEH7EO), the "colorized version" is the way the film was originally presented (minus the music). ...

Re: The Official 8th Annual Sci-Fi/Fantasy Challenge Discussion Thread

It's been a long time since I last watched that one (maybe I'll get around to it this month), but I suppose it could be argued that the huge amount of crime (and loss of at least one major city)...

Re: The Official 8th Annual Sci-Fi/Fantasy Challenge Discussion Thread

It should count if the character is like he is in comics (a blind guy whose "superpower" makes him able to "see"). Anyway, I'm hoping it counts, because I was thinking about watching it too.
