I don't think Batgirl should be overly dark though either. She's one of the more light hearted aspects of the Bat Family. Whedon did kind of place a lot of emphasis on how she came to be how she is and how she's damaged and what tragedies brought her to take on the mantle.

BAYWATCH Actress Priyanka Chopra Has Her Sights Set On A Superhero Role, Specifically BATGIRL

Obviously an actor/actress wanting a role means nothing, but what do people think of her?
“But my dream part is, now that I’m working in America, I definitely want to do a superhero part. When I think of American movies, they’ve had superheroes for eons right? So I definitely want to play a superhero and I want to have an interesting super power. I don’t know… Batgirl would be so cool!”

I hate to say this, but I think it will go to a known white, American woman. Or Zoe Saldana. Which ever comes first. Would she be locked into Marvel only?

Daddario please if it's Barbera, and of course it will be.
Sofia Boutella if it's Cassandra Cain.

They would be wise to cast someone young, because it's probably going to be years before it gets made.

IDK, once Whedon is done his part on Justice League, probably will get working on the script (if he hasn't already). Wouldn't surprise me if it came out some time in 2019. This isn't going to be the same kind of scale, budget wise, of The Batman or Wonder Woman.

Grain of salt and all that, but this is the shortlist according to Screen Rant:

Of that group, I like Jane Levy, Haley Lu Richardson and Olivia Cooke.
- Elle Fanning (Neon Demon/Live By Night)
- Olivia Cooke (Bates Motel)
- Bella Thorne (Shake It Up!)
- Katherine Langford (13 Reasons Why)
- Margaret Qualley (The Leftovers)
- Jane Levy (Don’t Breathe)
- Emma Roberts (Scream Queens)
- Haley Lu Richardson (Split/Edge Of Seventeen)
- Naomi Scott (Power Rangers)

I don't mind Elle Fanning, but I really don't see her in that role.
Either Jane Levy or Olivia Cooke would be fantastic casting. I probably dig Cooke a little more as an actress, being a big fan of Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, but Jane Levy seems like she'd be a better fit for the character's mix of strength, spunk, and sweetness. Plus, she looks great in red.
