$100M at the box office is $50M for Fox. That is like 2.5M VOD purchases (well maybe closer to 3M because of the fees paid to VUDU, Apple, etc). I think that they might have gotten that with VOD.

Perhaps the pandemic is the reason why Disney still wants to bring the movie into theaters. They can test the waters with little risk, before getting out the big guns like Mulan. The New Mutants could be a hit since people are hungry for content, while in a Covid-free-scenario the movie's chance to be a bomb would have been much higher.

The Comic Con @ Home Panel was short but a lot of fun.

It was cool to hear that previous to COVID-19, Josh Boone & Bill Sienkiewic were planning to record an Audio Commentary for the Blu-Ray release.

I'm actually rather looking forward to checking this out based on the footage, and hopefully it might actually get on a few screens down here in New Zealand (our cinemas are open and we're starved for new stuff). It's possible it may be a trainwreck still but it really seems to capture the golden Sienkiewicz era of NM I grew up on and like the casting. Also it's been more than a year now since I saw a superhero movie in theatres and I'm feeling deprived.

Since they’re already putting Mulan on Disney+, which is a bigger film I don’t see why Disney doesn’t do the same thing with this film. Unless they hold off on the announcement until like next month and release it in October since it has a bit of a horror vibe.

They can't go direct to Disney+ because it's a Fox property and the Cable/Streaming rights were already sold elsewhere.

Yeah the cable rights were pre-sold to HBO.

It won't air on HBO until probably early 2021.
