Re: Captain America: The Winter Soldier (Russo & Russo, 2014) — The Reviews Thread

Saw it today with a couple of friends and we all enjoyed it! I'm probably going to make plans to see it again sometime this week.

My only issue was a couple of the action scenes seemed too regulated to their own bubble. It literally just looked like an empty/closed off street with only our cast of characters battling each other.

At least with the early car chase scene with Fury, I felt like the action scenes were a bit more tied in with their surroundings.

It's all, well mostly just a file on a hard drive that gets loaded up into the projector.
Then someone programs the projector to play the files at specific times.

Occasionally the person programs the wrong file and a 2D will play instead of the 3D or a lower resolution version instead of a hi res file or the wrong audio.

Lots of baggies on horizontal lines. I think they paid to wrong file. Looked like interlaced video.

Gave it Is 3.5
I understood about 1/2 of this.

Actually I was severely auto corrected.

I don't think our showing had anyone up there, some of the subtitles were 95% off the bottom of the screen. the tops of the letters were visible, so it was definitely a scene where the foreign speaker was being translated, and there was one where the first sentence was readable but not the second. Minor issue in this movie though

I took the kids and my dad to an afternoon show, and all of us enjoyed the hell out of it.

They did a good job in casting the new additions. And Scarlett stole many of her scenes - again.

I really liked what they did with Falcon.

I don't think it was odd at all. The major events of this movie took place over a very short period of time (a couple of days at most). Plus they were trying to stay "off the grid" ... This may be the first one where I didn't wonder where everybody else was.

Forgot to mention how much I loved the End Credits Sequence/Artwork.

One of my biggest artistic influences, David Mack, worked on them. He answered a couple of questions about them on his Tumblr page, at length, which is a pretty great read.

My younger nerd co-workers are waxing rhapsodic about this film in a hallway conversation as I type this. They say it ties in with the "Agents of SHIELD" series. My eyes glaze over...

Never watch Agents of SHIELD. It's very very mediocre.

Cap 2 is solid though.

Why?

Agents of SHIELD has gotten very very good. Especially with the movie tie in, I think the last few episodes have been excellent.

Don't worry Ash, you're just old. Senior citizens rolled their eyes at you too back when you were young.

You should, if you haven't already, check out some of the current threads about the show. It has really improved and those of us that stuck with it are really enjoying it.

Really? The nerds I hung out with had serious and intense full-on discussion and debates. I thought that was the point of being a nerd!

It was very mediocre in the beginning. It consistently improved, though, as it went along, and over the last 5 or 6 episodes it became very, very good.

Cap 2 is solid though.
Very much so.

Can a lightsaber cut through Captain America's shield?

If Wolverine were really Luke's father, would lightsabers be made of adamantium?

Re: Captain America: The Winter Soldier (Russo & Russo, 2014) — The Reviews Thread

Quick question: Is this worth seeing in IMAX 3D or should it just be seen in 2D?

I was likely going to see it this weekend. I didn't want to go thru the thread for fear of spoilers so this question may have been answered already.

I saw it in 2D last night and at no time throughout the movie did I think I was missing out on the 3D experience.

Re: Captain America: The Winter Soldier (Russo & Russo, 2014) — The Reviews Thread

From what I read? 2D is the way to go.

When will Marvel actually shoot in 3D? I've seen 2 PCs from them and those weren't hot. PC can be really good if done well... Pacific Rim and Gravity were solid. I'm not a fan of the format but depending on who the director is... I'd totally make it a first option.

I thought the first one was just ok but really enjoyed this one. It was like in a different class in my opinion.

No real reason to see it in 3d though.

Same here. It did help that the 2D screen was in one of the larger theaters so the screen was pretty big.
