See this now! Just wonderful. Sublime. Had a grin from ear to ear till end. John Carney hits a homerun with this one. Such an incredible mix of everything i love about music and movies. Think i liked it better than Once. And i loved Once. this was just so enjoyable. can't wait to see it again. too bad about the skimpy Bluray extras...

Maybe it's classic Bronson, but it's a terrible movie with terrible acting, writing, effects, directing. Bronson is stiff as a board and the vigilante story while perhaps new, doesn't seem that shocking to me, but that perhaps is a desensitivity to such wanton violence...

Just curious, have you seen any of Charles Bronson's movies in the past? The guy had an almost 40+ year acting career. But to be perfectly honest, the movies in the later part of his career when he was in his 60s and 70s are more guilty pleasures and have a schlocky value to them. They aren't modern day award winning classics. Most of those later movies are super low budget and were made by the notorious Cannon Films.

Special FX? Were there any? This was a movie shot in 1973 and was a simple story about a mild mannered man pushed to violence after the murder of his wife and rape of his daughter.

You don't sound too happy with these. I suggest you don't blind buy every catalogue Blu-Ray that generates some enthusiasm when you haven't seen it yet.

Effects I'm talking the blood squibs. They are bright red. Just does not jive with a gritty dirty story like this. I've seen Bronson in a couple things. Dirty Dozen being the highlight. Maybe it's just his way, but I didn't like it...

But it was quite a big deal back in the day. The depiction of the rape was pretty brutal and got a lot of talk.

I think Bronson was that generation's Channing Tatum. He was just a very stiff guy, but somehow became known for tough guy roles.

Typical Sasha Baron Cohen. Full of gross out humor. It was funny but I grow a little tired of his antics. I should have waited until my son was around, he loves every minute that guy puts on the screen.

Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread

Saw a bunch of movies over the last few days. Went to the video store and sort of went on a renting binge to catch up on stuff I wanted to see.

Pride & Prejudice & Zombies (2016)

Despite having a really beautiful young female cast, this movie took itself way too seriously. I was expecting more of a parody, but this was literally a zombie thriller in turn of the century England.

The Witch (2016)

Fortunately this movie was very short at roughly 90 minutes. This movie definitely isn't for everyone. It takes place in early turn of the century America and deals with witch craft and it's paranoia. Heavy use of the Puritan language/dialect. You need to turn on the BD subtitles to make heads or tales what everyone is saying.

The Other Side of the Door (2016)

Decent supernatural thriller starring Sarah Wayne Callies from The Walking Dead and Jeremy Sisto. Movie takes place in India and deals with a family torn apart by the death of the son in a car accident.

Precious Cargo (2016)

Straight to Video action movie with Mark-Paul Gosselaar and a sleep walking Bruce Willis. This movie got mostly bad reviews, but I found it somewhat entertaining for being a low budget action movie. It certainly helped that it was short at about 90 minutes. Bruce Willis has really mailed it in. He's just cashing in paychecks at this point in his career.

I Am Wrath (2016)

Another former A-list star taking another straight to video role. Not bad for being a low budget action movie. The movie is heavily influenced by Death Wish. Mild Mannered family man with a dark past seeking revenge on the thugs who murdered his wife is what appears to be a random attack.

Skiptrace (2016)

Only available via Directv on demand here in the States. Won't be available in theatres and video on demand until September.

Decent comedy-action movie with Jackie Chan and Johnny Knoxville. Thought this was going to be terrible, but it had some charm to it and some fun action scenes.

Batman: The Kiling Joke (2016)

Rented this on BD. Straight to video, R-rated animated Batman movie. Mark Hamill is great as the joker and it's really violent and dark for an animated movie. Loved the Joker origin story.

I also liked that it also served as an origin story for Barbara Gordon being Oracle post-Bat Girl.

Yeah Bronson was never really known for his acting. IMO he was more of a cult favorite because he was a senior citizen tough guy.

Forgot one more that I watched

Jarhead 3 (2016)

In-name only straight to video sequel. This was for all intents and purposes a low budget version of 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi.

Very similar story about a U.S. Embassy in some Middle Eastern country under siege by terrorists and it has to be defended by some young and inexperienced soldiers.

Jason Bourne (2016)

Capped off my movie weekend with the latest entry in the Bourne series.

Decent return. Slow 1st half, good 2nd half, but story did feel tired after being away for 9 years.

Bad Moms (2016)

Pretty safe when it came to overall plot & structure. Kathryn Hahn and Kristen Bell were the best parts of the film for me.

Bowfinger - 4/5

The last time Steve Martin & Eddie Murphy were actually funny.

White Material - 4/5

A white French woman living in Africa refuses to give up her coffee plantation even though a civil war has erupted. By doing this she places her family in danger due to the hostile political climate towards Europeans. Very powerful stuff from the great Claire Denis.

Proxy - 4/5

After being brutally attacked and losing her pregnancy, a woman joins a local support group. While there she bonds with another woman who lost both her husband and son. As their relationship progresses we start to realize that something is not quiet right with both of these women. Intense psychological thriller that reminded me of early De Palma with a bit of Cronenberg.

Évocateur: The Morton Downey Jr. Movie - 4/5

Documentary about the controversial TV personality who lowered the bar and paved the way for schlock TV talk shows. Love him or hate him, his show was like a bad car wreck that you just couldn't stop watching.

Frank & Cindy - 4/5

Documentary about the dysfunctional lives of a woman who married a pop star and then winds up supporting him when his career goes down the tubes.

The Sleeper (2012)

It wears its influences pretty heavy on its sleeve as far as (Throwback) Slasher films go. Too bad the poster art is more interesting than the film itself.

French Postcards (1979) - Pretty good coming of age/Romantic comedy set in Paris. So, what do I do when I have a thang for the lead actresses in a movie?, I go to IMDB to research and find out more about them...Only to discovered two of them, tragically perish in freak accidents. One of them in an automobile accident and the other drowned, only five years ago.

Sledgehammer (1983)

What I would expect from a No-Budget Slasher film, though surprisingly creepy in some parts.

Oddly enough I disliked this film when I saw it during its theatrical run 17 years ago. I really enjoy the film now.

Christmas Cruelty (2013)

Mean-spirited for the first 8 minutes and most of the final 20-25 minutes.

Problem is some of the editing is strange and nothing really happens between the films two bookends.
