A few movies I've seen recently that left me feeling a bit down:
Love Liza
The Seventh Seal
Cannibal Holocaust
Kids
Happiness
As for Requiem for a Dream, this used to depress the hell out of me (I think I even started a thread about it), but I've seen it a couple more times, and the effect really wears off. In fact, the last 15 minutes almost seems cheesy after a handful of viewings. Some people call this movie "Reefer Madness II". While I wouldn't go nearly that far, I have to say I can see how someone might feel that way. Though it's still a very well-made film, and is very much worthwhile.

The Russian film Come and See is by far the most depressing film I've ever seen. If you feel like watching a World War II drama that will leave you sick to your stomach and filled with horrific imagery for weeks, check it out! Come and See

I got the Moulin Rouge (the "musical") DVD for Christmas 2002 so I had to watch it. It made me cringe with pain at such a waste of screen time and money. Especially in view of the fact that such masterpieces of the XXth century musical stage like A Little Night Music (Stephen Sondheim) and Nine (Maury Yeston) are still awaiting a decent film version.

Of the ones already mentionned:
Dancer in the Dark
Requiem for a Dream
Grave of the Fireflies
Come and See
The Virgin Suicides
Not mentionned but those who have seen it will surely agree, the Korean film Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance. Fantastic flick but boy, what a downer...

Requiem For a Dream: I honestly hoped the director would kill the characters soon to stop their suffering.
Schindler's List-Great movie, but depressing as anything can be.
Windtalkers-that I would not get the time I invested into watching it back.

Has this been mentioned? The Seventh Victim (1943), one of the Val Lewton mystery-thrillers of the forties (directed by Mark Robson) has to have the most censor-provoking and depressing ending in the history of American movies. The film is about a socialite who falls prey to a devil-wotshipping cult who wants her to commit suicide as atonement for revealing their existence to her psychiatrist. Despite a nominal condemantion of evil, the film ends rather badly. All characters, whether good, evil or indifferent, are weak and flawed. Like Ingmar Bergman without the hope.

Stand By Me is god-awful for me to watch. I've owned it for nearly a year before finally opening it a week or so ago. I know now why I never touched it.
Seeing River Phoenix in his prime innocence, right before adulthood took over, is very hard for me to watch. He's so great in that film and Last Crusade, and it's hard for me to stomach the fact that he's gone.

Requiem, Glengarry GlenRoss, and er....
Darkness Falls, since I spent $8 blind-buying the piece of crap.
Also, One False Move was very depressing (Paxton especially).
