Yeah, I don't think people realize that these films were owned by 3 or 4 different studios and it must have been very tricky for Shout Factory to license them all for this box set.

Exactly. I'm still excited for it. I'll just wait for it to come down in price since I wasn't able to get when FYE had the cheap pre-order.

One horror classic... and a ton of unequal sequels. I'll pass.

It sounds to me like all of that footage is just a bunch of dailies, likely without audio. Just a bunch of alternate takes and not some kind of goldmine of deleted scenes.

Something a hardcore collector might be interested in owning, but probably quite tedious for a typical fan else to sit through.

You realize this is really not the case anymore, right?

Anchor Bay owns the rights to 1, 4, 5, and Rob Zombie's two films due to their arrangement with the Weinsteins (they own 25% of Anchor Bay/Starz).

Shout has a licensing agreement with Universal giving them access to their two films alongside Miramax's three entries.

If anything, Shout's titles look far superior on paper than Anchor Bay's entries in the set.

Anchor Bay owns the rights to the first Halloween? They're not just licensing it for the millionth time?

For the nerdiest of nerds, my buddy B.C. wrote up a piece covering all of the bonus features, including what's been added, what's missing and what doesn't matter.

Check it out here.

I would love to see retrospectives that were truly honest. Get the people involved in Halloween: Resurrection and make them answer for their crimes!

Re: Halloween: The Complete Collection is coming to blu-ray

Honestly a lot of times the worst films have interesting stories behind them so I wouldn't mind seeing a documentary on Halloween Resurrection just for the sake of it. I'm not truly bothered if one won't be included though. For the record while I do think it's one of the worst of the original series it's still better than either of the Zombie films if you ask me. The worst part of it is the undoing of Halloween: H20.

The second worst part of it is that ghastly mask. It's right up there with 5 as the worst of the series.

Yeah. For some reason I've always disliked The Revenge of Michael Myers and that's probably my least favorite entry (not counting the Zombie films).

Uh, what?

Media Home Entertainment had the rights to it for VHS and LD. When Media Home Entertainment went under, Anchor Bay acquired all of their films until specific licensing agreements ran out (e.g. Canon Films went to MGM, the New Line films made their way back to New Line/Warner, etc).

Halloween (and 4 and 5) are one of the few properties they have.

Well, no complaints from me about this box set. In fact it should be a benchmark for how a good box set should be. Studios take note. If you still want to put out physical media--this is how you do it!

And I would definitely like to see "Trick or Treat, Motherfucker: the Story of Halloween Resurrection".

That definitely is what I always think of whenever I think of Halloween Resurrection.

Look.

I want fat Busta Rhymes reminiscing about skinny Busta Rhymes dropkicking Michael Myers out of a two-story window.

His rambling dialogue too:

"Who's betta than Wai Chung Lei? Come on, whoopin' everybody ass while he smokin' a cigarette. Aw, shit! Who's knockin' at my door this late? Whoever it is is distractin' me from watchin' Wai Chung Lei whoop some ass!"

"This is to us for successfully putting together something collectively so ingenious as a team and a duo that we should definitely be able to secure a lot of food on the table for ourselves as long as everything goes as nicely as it's goin' right now."

Halloween: Resurrection is a terrible film.

Despite that, I would choose to watch it over Zombie's two films. Hell, Resurrection looks like Citizen Kane compared to Zombie's flicks.

I give Zombie's first Halloween a pass because despite all if it's flaws it actually has some worthwhile aspects too. Zombie's Halloween 2 however, is one of the worst films I've ever seen in my life!

Re: Halloween: The Complete Collection is coming to blu-ray

So it looks like I'll be holding onto my Halloween 35th Anniversary Blu Digibook. Mostly because I still have my Media Home Entertainment vhs, my Halloween LE VHS Boxset, my Halloween Criterion laser disc and my Anchor Bay Halloween 25th Anniversary dvd.

I'll also be keeping my Halloween 25 Years of Terror dvd.

However I'll be parting with:

Halloween 2 & 3 Scream Factory Blu Ray
Halloween 5 Divimax dvd (probably)
Halloween H20 dvd
Halloween Resurrection dvd
Halloween 2007 Blu Ray
Halloween 2 Unrated Directors 2010 Blu Ray.

I'm on the fence about getting rid of my Halloween 4 and 5 Divimax dvd's due to the special features that were omitted from the box set. The Halloween 5 introduction by Ellie Cornell and Danielle Harris I could probably live without. So I'll probably get rid of that. But I don't know about the part 4 Divimax dvd. I might have to listen to the Alan B McElroy commentary again and make a decision.

As far as the Halloween 4/5 discussion panel, does anyone know if that footage is the same footage included in Halloween 25 Years of Terror dvd?

Also, is anyone aware, has anyone made a list of EVERYTHING not included in the set that has been on VHS, Laserdisc, DVD, Blu Ray at some point over the years. I love this set, and outside of the Zombie theatricals have really nothing to complain about, but theres still a lot of wayward special features from over the years that isn't included in the set.

Amazon.ca has lowered their pre-order price to $94.10 Canadian for the set.

Shout Factory just posted this. Looks like each movie is in it's own keep case. No sleeves.
