Re: Anyone Care to List Their Valuable OOP Dvds?

Add Premutos: Lord of the Living Dead to my rare & valuable OOP list.

Didn't realize it as worth anything till I just checked Amazon. No new copies, and the cheapest used was $37.24.

Another one I noticed is my Geneon release of Pyshomania. I already knew the Image release was pretty rare but the Geneon release [which I purchased at FYE a few years ago for $3 new] is going for $17.98 and up used.

I see that G.I. Joe: The Movie starts from $18.94 used on Amazon. Hardly a title to keep under lock and key, but nice to know.

Since value is = rarity + demand + time, I really don't know which of my out of print releases are currently valued at, but I own a few that I've seen some ridiculous prices for ...

Urotsukidoji - Perfect collection
Tokyo Olympiad - Criterion (still sealed)
Sex & Fury - (transparent cover)
Hard Boiled - Criterion
Battle Beyond the Stars
Female Convict Scorpion: Jailhouse 41
Angel Cop - Collection
Munich - Collectors
Daimajin - Complete
Tampopo

...and some releases I totally need but won't pay extraordinary prices for (yet):

Fist of the North Star
Gargoyle
The Human Condition trilogy
Deathrace 2000 (owned it and sold it dirt cheap )

I tend to sell the majority of my rare/OOP finds that are worth something. Cash is good, plus I'm a Blu-ray fanatic now.

I had no idea this was fetching those prices. I own the Corman Collection release with the green slipcover.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

And as far as Angel Guts goes, it's getting $63.95 and up on Amazon used. If I'm not mistaken, I gave $40 for my set new at a Tower a few years ago.

No, it really was that cheap since it was included in the big Retro sale where everything was dirt cheap.

I liked it enough to upgrade to the widescreen version. If you don't like cheesy horror then you wouldn't like it, but if you didn't like that sort of stuff then you wouldn't have Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers

Just remembered something else that went up in price, the first few seasons of Transformers. I ended up selling vol 1 of season 1 for a decent amount, or at least double what I paid for it. Pretty sure they'll sell for a high amount again when the 2nd movie rolls around.

Why?

I buy films that I will enjoy ...or think there is a high probability of enjoying. I would agree with your argument on the BR side only, and I do mean only, if it related to catalog titles that will most likely receive a BR release.

But with respect to your "cash is good" comment ... if the only reason behind selling rare/OOP discs at a high price point is for the sake of extra disposable income, then I'd question why buying DVDs/BRs is even important to begin with.

No kidding. Hard to believe I bought a pristine used copy locally for $20 a few months ago ...

Man, do I wish I hadn't sold off all my Lexx discs and my Farscape box sets years ago when I unloaded the collection.

Re: Anyone Care to List Their Valuable OOP Dvds?

Most of my OOPs are WWF/WWE DVDs.

I have two Raw Homecomings (they were limited edition and OOP Walmart pack-in - I picked them up for $30 and $10; completed eBay auctions went for $55-$105 - Amazon Marketplace has it well over $150) and basically all the WWF DVDs that were released before the World Wildlife Fund sued them (a handful are worth more than $30).

Well, duh. $1,000 to someone like Bill Gates is pretty much pocket change. I would think it'd be safe to say that MOST of us wouldn't turn down $1,000.

Was going to add the orignal seasons of the Transformers, but those seem to have come down in price.

Re: Anyone Care to List Their Valuable OOP Dvds?

I have the two discs sets of the following (which are apparently OOP):

War of the Worlds (2005)
Cinderella Man
Jarhead
Munich
United 93

I also snagged a MST3k version of The Hellcats for $9.99 at FYE in December. Along with the tin version of the 20th Anniversary set.

I have the Planet of the Apes set (the head), the Blade Runner briefcase, Criterion versions of Dead Ringers, Silence of the Lambs, Flash for Frankenstein, Straw Dogs, Spellbound, Notorious, a bunch of Disney Treasures, Homicide the Complete Series, original Sports Night set...and a few more I don't remember off hand. Check my sig, I sure there are more in there.
