I'm tempted to get a literal ton of bundles, but will try to limit it to the "essentials" like Concrete, Nexus, and perhaps some B.R.P.D.
It literally gives no info on the code. All it says is "Use Code DHD3YR at checkout to get an additional 10% off!" Nothing about if it's one use per account or anything like that.

I'm afraid I'm going to spend too much. I just got into the digital comic thing, and I have a lot of comics I could pick up and ditch my physical copies (like Buffy)

Thanks again! I actually just now got the same code/email.

I hit ~$280 being very conservative in their bundle list. If I knew the code only worked once I'd at least double that total.....

And yes, I'll have a bunch of Dark Horse trades and floppies to sell/trade after this sale.

Are the bundles only available via the website, or is there some link I'm missing on the ipad app?

Web only I'm pretty sure. I hear they're getting slammed; I'm having some checkout errors.

I am curious about this too. I fired off a tweet to their rep on twitter asking about it. Of course, reps are sometimes wrong, but I will report back when they reply.

Edit: They replied back already and said it is multiple use.

I think I'm going to grab a bunch of The Goon and probably Usagi Yojimbo.

Is there a bundle of Brian Woods' Star Wars stuff? There's so much Star Wars stuff to sift through that I might have missed it.

EDIT: Nevermind, found the Star Wars bundles.

What happens when they lose the SW license and the ability to publish books under that license? I know they would stop selling digital copies, but would you still be able to download the copies you already bought?

I'm grabbing a bit of Usagi, and then more if I like it as much as I remember.

I'm scared to start of the Star Wars books. The OCD collector in me will want them all.

I guess one never knows for sure, long term at least, but I've read that they've said purchases will always be available to re-download and read, just not for sale.

In the past, on Comixology at least, titles that have been pulled from the store are still in your purchase history and available.

Re: Digital Comic Book Discussion and Deals (Comixology, etc)

Ugh. Why am I looking at some of the cheap Dark Horse manga bundles that I own the physical books for? Oh right, shelf space. Digital is both a blessing and a curse sometimes.

Re: Digital Comic Book Discussion and Deals (Comixology, etc)

Well, bought all of the current Buffyverse stuff (Season 8, 9, Angel & Faith, the Spike Mini & the One Shots) and the Mass Effect comics.

Now I noticed the bundle that has all the early (1998-2002) Buffy comics. Dammit.

Edit: And I haven't even looked at the Star Wars, Alien or Terminator comics yet.

I got three volumes of Concrete, almost all of The Goon (I already had two volumes) and books 9-15 of Usagi Yojimbo for $68.85.

I refuse to say how much I spent, but I now own almost all of Concrete, Hellboy, BRPD, Aliens, Predator, and several more.

Re: Digital Comic Book Discussion and Deals (Comixology, etc)

Comixology is retiring their app and launching a new one that is read only. This forces all purchases through their site and prevents Apple from skimming a 30% cut off every comic sold.

We have introduced a new comiXology iPhone and iPad Comics App and are retiring the old one. iPhone and iPad users will now buy comics on comixology.com and download to the app. All your purchased books will be readable in the new app once you’ve downloaded it and taken the following steps:
  • If you don’t have a comiXology account, go to comiXology.com to create one, or create one in the original Comics app!
  • In the original Comics app, log into your comiXology account.
  • Sync your in-app purchases to your comiXology account by tapping the Restore button on the Purchases tab.
  • Download the new comiXology app. This will be your new home downloading and reading comics.
  • Start shopping on comiXology.com. New web purchases will appear in the “In Cloud” tab in our new app.
  • If you have comics downloaded in the old app, no problem! You can continue to read them there without re-downloading to the new app.
They have also credited a $5 gift card onto all accounts for the inconvenience.

I don't either, but the internet outrage machine is already revving up.

Re: Digital Comic Book Discussion and Deals (Comixology, etc)

I'm slightly nervous, because I'm still in an iPad 1 and most new apps require iOS 6, which you can't get on iPad 1. Anyone know if this is the case? Because it would suck not to be able to read on my iPad anymore.

I just checked, the new app requires iOS 5.1 or newer.

The only potential problem I could see is less cheaper bundles to entice web purchases since now all purchases will be web. I don't have a problem with it but I did just purchase $200 in new iTunes cards this week that I mostly use on comixology. Whoops!

Another big problem, possibly, for Amazon, is that the impulse purchase is now harder. If one pretty much must read the comics in the new disabled app (browser reading sucks iirc), but then can't buy the next issue or anything else without jumping though hoops, Amazon is going to lose a lot of money.

Of course, they could lower all comic prices by 30% (the money they are cutting Apple out of; the only real reason for this change) and gain some of that lost traffic back and possibly increase business; but I guess the publishers won't allow the price competition.

Personally, I learned to make all my purchases in the web anyways, for four reasons.
  1. avoiding Apple censorship (missing titles)
  2. web only lower priced bundles
  3. don't want the automatic downloads of everything
  4. more money goes to comic creators
