Tempting, but I'm still waiting for the Criterion version of Moonrise Kingdom. Don't know if I should just buy this or wait for the inevitable Criterion Blu.

I believe the Italian release from RHV is the best presentation of A Fistful of Dollars, and the German release from Universum is the best of For a Few Dollars More. It's been a while since I saw screenshot comparisons, but it wasn't even close. They blew the MGM discs clean out of the water.

Amazon matched, so I grabbed Grand Budapest Hotel earlier today for $3.27 after using up my available Amex rewards. They should just release the Anderson films through Criterion on the first run. Supplements are great and all, but w/no picture quality difference, I cannot justify spending nearly double, plus waiting for the Criterion releases.

I only bought the MGM disc set since I had a $10 off coupon to use. Total out of pocket was like $3.00+ tax. I don't really feel like double dipping (actually I already had the old version of Good, Bad, and Ugly too) and spending more on films I only have a casual interest in.

That's true. I purchased the 20th Century Fox version of Fantastic Mr. Fox over the Criterion version because of this price difference. Anyway, I'm a cheapskate and will just wait for a FoxConnect 50% sale where I can get Grand Budapest Hotel for $9.50

I would love that as well, but I suspect that in most cases those supplments were not created in time for there Criterioon to come out when the studio release came out.

Anyway, I too picked up GBH because I didn't want to wait. But since I never got around to pickign up MK, I'm OO with waiting for the likely Criterion version of that one. And I have no interest in double dipping on Mr. Fox.

thanks. The two will set me back by $43 ordering from their respective Amazon sites. User reviews on bluray.com agree with your opinion on the RHV release (there are no user or site reviews on the German release of FAFD). Can I ask for alternate vendor recommendations to source these with a better price ? TIA

Not sure if it makes a difference to anyone, but that might be a new standard (non-Digibook) packaging job. Picture looks more like a slipcover, and there's nothing in the description that indicates "book packaging". Still a sweet deal though.

I got the trilogy in the mail yesterday and got the original mono track on The Good The Bad and The Ugly. You can tell by looking at the back of the disc and check for the numbers E40613-01H 9193 V2 on the inner ring. The one with the messed up audio has the numbers E40426-02G 0507 on the back inner ring.

I picked this one up in-store yesterday, it's the digibook. Not marked as on-sale but rang up at the 9.99 price. Great deal.

I think he might have been on to something regarding how the packaging description and picture changed. Many sets like that one switch without any notice and when ordering online you never know which you will receive.

Most recent example I can think of was the original Halloween switching from digibook to Amaray without any notice. Those kind of releases don't tend to stick with the special packaging forever.

Re: Best Buy / bestbuy.com discounts and deals on Blu-ray

something seriously wrong on BB's site. Every movie shows a 'coming soon' status with no option for adding to cart. Looking up store availability shows an error message

It's been hosed for most of the day. Probably North Korea doing something to the site for having The Interview being a Best Buy exclusive. There aren't any BB's in North Korea, they'll have to go south to Seoul where the nearest store is.

Deal of the Day:

The Grand Budapest Hotel--$5.99

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/grand-bu...&skuId=6080144

Beats the Foxconnect price (when they have a 50% sale) by about $3.51. I don't really care about extras so I can just pick up this version and not care whether or not Criterion releases this in the future.

Incredible deal for a quality Blu-ray release. It's not as loaded with supplements as a future Criterion edition, but the A/V quality cannot be improved and it comes with a UV code.

It appears you can also get 100 bonus BB points when ordering Grand Budapest Hotel. Actually there are 2 100 bonus point offers. But I think you'll probably get credit for only one.

Re: Best Buy / bestbuy.com discounts and deals on Blu-ray

In for GBH at $5.99. It's available for Store Pickup and Backordered for shipping. I went with the shipping since I saw it in the the theaters (and, like most of you, I have a huge stack of unwatched discs). I still have Elite status, so the shipping is free.

Thanks sleepyhead55

Yep, thanks for the heads up on this one. Even if/when Criterion releases this, I don't mind paying an additional $5.99 for this movie.

Great deal. I just recorded this on HBO though, so that'll hold me over until the Criterion release.

Of course I bought it yesterday for $11.99. You're welcome.

Guess I have to go by there at lunch today for a price adjustment.
