So, inspired out of curiosity from your post, I just looked it up: RDJr has only hosted SNL a grand total of... once?! - way, way back in 1996, no less!

Crazy/bizarre that he hasn't hosted since Clinton's first term in office - and man would this episode have been so much better had they gone with *that* Avenger over Johansson's fourth hosting gig tonight. (Although I've gotta admit - until just having looked it up to see his last time hosting, I'd totally forgotten Downey was actually a full blown cast member in the 85-86 season.)

Does anybody else feel like "the media" is vastly over-rating the general public's interest in a boxing match (in 2015!)?

Robert Downey, Jr. was a regular on SNL for one season in the mid-80s. He was only on for one season and didn't make much of an impression, so he might have bad feelings about the show.

I was hoping that Leslie Jones and Jay Pharaoh would play the mother and son from the Baltimore riot.

Although he had an Oscar nomination under his belt and certainly had fans, Downey was not a very popular movie star until he made Iron Man in 2008. I'm sure SNL has pursued him to host ever since that, but I respect that RDJr knows that he is a huge star who does not need to take on a week of work just to promote himself or a movie. Most of them feel like taking a couple hours to go on a talk show is an imposition on their time.

I can't find a reference to any but the 1996 show with Fiona Apple.

I thought this was a good episode and a lot better than the Taraji P Henson episode.

Scarlett is the female equivalent of Timberlake and usually brings it each time she hosts. The only freaky thing is she looked like Bieber in those photos.

I want to see Blazer as a TV series lol

Taron Kilam was in almost every sketch.

I did not know Amber Theoharris also worked for the Orioles though I am more of a Lindsay Rhoads fan.

Please dump the girlfriends talk show!

Even though I watched this show on Sunday afternoon instead of Saturday night, I still fell asleep. That's how boring it was.

I did like the Marvel Black Widow rom-com, but that was it.

I also thought this episode sucked. A low point for me was the Dino Exhibit with the "random" questions. Brutal.

The '96 appearance was after he got out of prison, so even if he was embittered about his time on the show, he was trying to reform his image and make a comeback and took the gig.

Well considering the fight got delayed because of technical issues with the pay per feed not showing for people due to so many people ordering, I'd say no "the media" isn't overblowing it.

But along your point you'd be sort of right if you're talking about boxing in general. I would hazard a guess that this would be one of the last big boxing events for some time, if not ever.

Ugh, ditto. How the hell did this abysmal skit get past the first reading table? Hey, let's add a foppy wig on Taran Killam. That'll absolutely slay them! Absolutely awful.

I figured that that sketch was based on a movie or tv show that I haven't seen; it seemed like I needed to have seen something else in order to get it.

Did the audience even laugh at that skit? They must hold up "laugh" signs. That's the only reason I'd laugh at half the shit they'd do.

From what I've heard from other commenters, the writer of the sketch was actually around people like that. I saw lot of people saying "My God, I know/was around someone just like that!"
