Well, this is a basement theater and new construction, so as far as the ceiling goes, those drops are to accommodate HVAC ductwork. I had media and equipment racks left over from my old theater and was able to recess them into the new framing/drywall, then trim them out for a nice, finished look.

BTW, I showed your pics to three of my co-workers - you have folks that'll hire you to do this for them! Again, a phenomenal jobs and it triggers things for my next theater!
