Is it worth upgrading my receiver with bose speakers?

My dad passed down to me his receiver and Bose redline speaker. The receiver is about 8-9 year old Yamaha. I know this forum and other forum are not into bose because of the over priced speaker. I intend to use these speakers for my music and movie and am using the ps3 for Blu Ray Disc and an oppo dvd player for DVD's. Is it worth to upgrade to an HD capable receiver for these speakers, and I don't plan on upgrading these speaker anytime soon.It is also a bedroom setup

There are so many other reasons to hate Blose speakers.

To answer your question, no.

You could probably ebay those Bose speakers, and then purchase something of better quality that would benefit from HD sound.

Maybe there's something behind that then.

On a serious note, get rid of them, and get something else. Anything else. They are junk.

I normally would say say but there is one important factor....these were "passed" down and not bought. Yea you can try to sell them but I wouldn't give them away. At least you do have some sound which is better than no sound but I'd start looking.

You are referencing the TV speakers, no doubt.

You don't mention what you are using as speakers right now. So it's possible the Bose (as bad as their rep is) could be an upgrade to what you have already. But, I don't think it would be necessary to upgrade the receiver to maximize their potential. As long as the yamaha has digital input and Dolby digital, it should be good enough.

Actually, no. It is NOT possible that Bose could be an upgrade. Somebody has to be worst and best. (although best is more difficult to agree upon)

I suppose it is possible that the current speakers (which I think are simply a TV) could be damaged and therefore offer fewer actively playing frequencies than brand new Bose speakers. But they'd have to be very damaged.

Re: Is it worth upgrading my receiver with bose speakers?

I love how irrational folks get about Bose.

The hyperbole is just silly. They are NOT the worst speaker out there...nor are they the best. They are well marketed and absolutely overpriced. I wouldn't buy them new, but I wouldn't hesitate to set them up in the bedroom if they were given to me.

All that said, as long as your reciever has optical inputs for sound, I see no reason to upgrade. Just run your video directly to the TV.

What is more irrational? All those who keep saying not to do it, or the ONE single person that does?

And BTW, I would very much "hesitate" to set them up in a bedroom even if they were given to me. Well there wouldn't be much of a hesitation, I just wouldn't do it.

chess,
Please name one of lower strata than the AM series. Remember, BROKEN doesn't count.

Re: Is it worth upgrading my receiver with bose speakers?

Not interested in arguing about it...just amused at the hatred for Bose. I personally went with an Energy bookshelf setup about 10 years ago and never looked back.

However, I didn't realize that the "redline" series was synonomous with the AM series...so yeah, that's pretty weak sauce. Still...bedroom setup.

And I think the original question we all agree on. The receiver is fine.
